Need your help to understand the issue I've had today.
Since finding out I was t2 last week, I have I have cut the carbs and eating healthier.
Felt good all day today up to 3 o'clock and ideas if I had hit a brick wall and all the energy had been sucked outbid me and I just wanted to sleep

Why did this happen, does this happen to you ???

Many thanks in advance, this is a great site

Oh yes same happened to me - apparently its ' carb flu ' your body adjusting to your new diet . It should improve - wishing you well

It sounds like carb flu to me. Your body will adjust in a few days. You just have to get through it I'm afraid.

Wow is that what it is ???
How long does it take to get over it ?
It was so bad this afternoon I had to go and have a lay down

Just a few days, that's all. Then all will be well. Just keep to your current low carb diet, don't be tempted out of it.

I experienced that the first time I did Atkins (way before I was diabetic). Its the stage before your body starts to burn fat - it can make you exhausted (and a bit difficult to live with! - I was a bit ratty to say the least of it). Doesn't last more than a few days. Take the nap and enjoy it - your body is telling you something so listen to it.

Search for 'carb flu' using the search box at top right, and you will find more info.
@Oldvatr said on another thread recently that increasing your salt intake and drinking more water can help.

it is quite common when your body hasn´t yet gotten used to live on fats and proteins mainly... I think you should just take a nap then and keep on your good work.. for some this flu-like feeling lasts around 2 weeks , in my case only 3-4 days... it varies from one person to the other

I didn't have carb flu at all. I put this down to reducing my carbs more gradually than many do, taking several months to reduce carb grams.

Trying to .... but struggling to be truthful.

Struggling to increase fats and protein? That is the easy part for most of us. In what way are you struggling with this?

Fish (and especially oily fish like salmon, mackerel etc), cheese, eggs, nuts, meat are all fats and protein combined.

Bacon, eggs, high meat content sausage, tomato and mushrooms is an excellent choice for breakfast or brunch, or lunch, or at any time. An omelet with cheese and mushrooms. A nice juicy steak. Pork. There is so much I could go on forever.
