Don't know if anyone on here saw BBC West tea time show tonight. There was a very interesting article on T2 and the use of Spinner Exercise Bikes. I was half awake after the work day and did not take it all in but, basically it seems that Bristol Uni has done a study that shows that a regime of a 2-3 min warm up, followed by a 40s sprint in a half hour cycle I think, gets the big muscles in the legs to burn glucose very effectively and this x3 to x4 time a week is showing VG results for us T2's. Definety going to give it a go but, was wondering if anyone on here had more details or any feedback ?

Very interesting wellwell. I basically do the same only I do it on the running machine. I set the treadmill at an angle of 6 degrees, walk at 4mph for 4 mins, then sprint at 11mph for 30 seconds still at an angle of 6 degrees, get off the treadmill for 30 seconds to get my heart reat right down again, then walk again for 4 mins and keep repeating the cycle for 40 minutes. Like the spin excercise I'm using mostly my leg muscles. I would also say doing the same sort of workout on the rowing machine would have the same effect, as you are mostly using your big leg muscles

Yeah East Man, I do a kind of circuit in the gym with treader, rower and cycle etc. I usually spent about half an hour in the gym and then have a steam and swim cool down. Form now on I will try 40second sprints on 5-10 mins session on each apparatus. Using the gym for the past few months has made a difference to me and I think this regime will provide more benefit form a T2 control point of view.

I've been doing a similar regime. Diabetic or not, the imnstructors at my gym all recommend varying your exercise through the session. So walk for a bit to warm up then medium gradient then maybe steep gradient, back to almost level for a jog, then steep gradient again and so on.

Same with cycle or other machines or even swapping between machines. Keep your body guessing, rather than plodding along seems to be the message.

Hi I also saw this article and started this morning on my excercise bike we will see how it goes. Hope it helps with the weight too!:-)

Apparently, this Bristol exercise regime is not about burning the calories per say, that's a lot more boring. What I read into it, is that short sharp exercise (40sec) to get the big leg muscles burning the gluc that we T2's need to shift from our systems. 3 to 4 time per week can apparently show vg results.

Results so far from this exercise regime have been excellent. I took a reading this evening an hour after finishing at the gym and I had a reading of 5.2 which had this old boy jumping for joy. Early doors obviously but, so far so good
