So with all the sports i do i broke my leg walking. Badly. So in a cast for probably 8 weeks so no sports and my principal control mechanism is out. Apart from managing my food intake any suggestions you lovely bunch?

Oh you poor soul! When I can't get out for my twice-daily walk in woodland or week-end hike I meditate for a bit and imagine myself doing my normal walks. According to psychologists - imagining yourself taking part in the exercise causes your brain to tell your muscles that they are performing the function and, can be just as effective as actually exercising. The trouble is - with myself, my mind keeps wandering/gets bored:bored: but perhaps you are more mentally disciplined? Worth a try perhaps? You have my sympathy, I go stir-crazy if I don't get my daily 1.5-3hrs exercise

Oh dear, so sorry to hear this. I hope you are feeling OK in yourself.
You can still do upper body exercises, can't you? Walking about on crutches isn't bad exercise!

You won't want to hear this, but exercise should never be your primary method of control. There will always be times, for us all, when it becomes impossible, or has to be cut back, particularly as we grow older. Food management should always be the number one method with exercise second. I'm not lecturing you, just saying how I feel.

It's time to start testing out your foods again and eating to your meter. That should help matters. :)

I am wheelchair bound so can't excercise in the same way as others. I watch YouTube vids of excercises specially for wchair users which are good. Might I just add that even though I cannot excercise as much my bg levels are still falling due to the changes I have made in my diet. Finally, a word of caution about using crutches, don't overdo it as you can end up damaging your shoulders/rotator cuffs.

Great results across the board.

I also reduced my cholesterol and blood pressure through a lot of exercise and I have had two periods where I could not walk - 1986 broken left femur (run over avoiding a mugging - they had knives - I was right to run) three weeks on crutches - due to internal fixing. In 2007, I tore my ligaments in my right foot, ignored the pain and then spent three years on crutches and a walking stick before I had to learn to walk from scratch

You do not have to stop exercising. Exercise helps manage your conditions and helps you feel good (endorphins). You have your upper body. Use it. You can do gym work - upper body stuff that will not put strain on your legs. it will help keep you sane and help your leg to repair.

Recently I had a torn rotator cuff so upper body work wasn't possible for a number of months - so I just specialised on legs. It's working. One of the instructors at the gym paid me a compliment yesterday. He is a highly regarded fitness and strength coach, he is a body builder too. He wished he had my calves. He is 27. I'm 53. Mind you my calves are awesome!

Use this leg injury to your advantage and good luck
