Broken Toe

I went for my first diabetic podiatry appointment last Monday and was told I may have broken my second toe on my left foot. I did not feel any pain as I've had neuropathy in both my feet and lower legs since 2009 - nothing to do with diabetes as I was only diagnosed may 2016. I used to go regularly to the podiatrist but due to hospitalisation I missed a couple of appointments and was taken off their list, only got put back on with a second request from my practice nurse who manages my diabetes. Now down to my question; I had to go for an xray on Tuesday and was told by the podiatrist at the Manchester Foot Hospital that I'd broken my toe in two places. She has asked me to go back on Monday (tomorrow) to be fitted for a boot - What is a boot?

Neuropathy since 2009 and nothing to do with diabetes? I think you may have been diabetic before you were diagnosed. Most of us were.

"What is a boot?" I don't know but it may be some kind of protective footware. Come back and let us know all about it.

A boot is a removable support, usually for a broken toe you get a support that looks a bit like a sandel, boots are used for foot or ankle fractures.

I am sorry to hear this, and hope your appointment goes well and you make a good recovery. :)

There is a condition called Charcot Foot that some diabetics with advanced neuropathy can develop, so I am very glad you are getting treatment for your toe and that you are getting podiatry appointments and follow ups.

I also hope you are getting some great help in controlling your blood glucose and keeping your HbA1c down to target, because that will help to prevent your neuropathy from getting any worse. :)

Please come back and tell us how your appointment goes?

When I have had broken toes, the hospital used to tape them together as there is not much they could do in the way of treatment.
