bronchitis and diabetes

Hi,
I have been feeling ill for about 3 weeks now and was diagnosed with bronchitis last week. I am on antibiotics which have made me nauseous but usually actually vomiting. Despite my best efforts about eating all the right things, even when my body is saying "please, no food or I will throw!" my bg has spiked so many times and I feel lousy, just like before diagnosis. So very tired and weak, sleeping a lot but still exhausted, peeing more often, the usual things. Any ideas how long before I get back to "normal"? Have others had this with this kind of infection/antibiotics? I am due to return to work on Monday but don't feel I can cope with it yet. Help! This is the first illness I have had since diagnosis last July. The GP I saw just said test more often and if I think I have brought up my Metformin take another one. I have been doing this but BG has been up to 15 and in double figures a lot. Any advice or shared experiences would be appreciated please!

Jen.

An infection will raise your BG levels and there's not a lot you can do about it. They ususally improve once the infection has gone.

If the vomiting has started since taking the antibiotics, you need to return to the GP and ask for a different type.

However, it may be that you are vomiting and still feeling lousy because your BS is high and you may be producing ketone bodies. Do you have any wee sticks you can test this with?
My suggestion would be to go to A&E and get yourself checked out as this could potentially be quite serious.

hi wiflib,
thanks, I will test my wee and go to gp/A&E for help if ketones are high. Hopefully it is the antibiotics not anything else Much appreciate your advice x
