I all, I was diagnosed with type 1 (bronze) diabetes a month go, I just wanted to know if there is anyone else who have been diagnosed with this? I was told a few years ago I had Hymochromotosis and went regularly to have blood taken to reduce the iron in my blood, sadly this didn't work and the iron has attacked my pancreas, I no longer produce insulin and I am injecting 4 times a day now, I am finding it all very stressful as I never seem to be away from the hospital and never thought I would get diabetes at my age (45) but I am worried about other complications now, I would love to hear from anyone else who my be in the same situation as me, I am still trying to get my BS down but even with insulin they can go as high as 31, this morning they were 11.5 I have cut out so much feel like I am been punched surly it must get better or even reverse, thanks

Hi, when I was diagnosed type 1 at 32 years and for about two months I had regular trips to hospital but after that it has become a once every 3 months. I also found my levels went into 20s and 30s for a few months aswell. Has anyone explained carb counting to you yet? It was explained to me a week after diagnosis but took couple of months to get my head around it. Biggest blow for me was having to plan food around whatever im doing and being pshycic at predicting how much walking around at work I do. I did really worry about complications to start with but have convinced myself not to worry yet and believe its helped my get a hba1c of 56 after 12months. since finding this forum I have felt so much better about it all and there is a wealth of knowledge from people who dealt with jus about everything diabetes related. good luck and hope someone else can help you a bit more

Thank you, I have found out more from this group than anyone else, I am trying to cut the carbs but still don't understand a great deal such as going for a walk and keeping sugars low, I have so much more respect for diabetes now, I never understood it and how you guys had to manage, thanks again for your reply x
