Brr cold

I asked this on the weight loss forum, but it may not have anything to do with that, so going to ask here. Today I am feeling the cold so much. I am freezing. I have 2 big thick sweaters on, a pair of thick fleecy pants, furry boot slippers, and I am shivering. I have had hot drinks etc but nothing is helping, I just can't get warm. Usually, I don't feel the cold at all, but the last few days, and today especially, I am colder than I can ever remember. Any idea's/tips?

You're not running a temprature are you? I know I shiver in front of the fire if mines above 38 for some reason or other.

I've noticed that I feel the cold alot more now since diagnosis. I don't know if it's due to the weight loss(2 stones) or because feeling the heat was one of the classic symptoms of diagnosis and, now BG under control, the cold is more obvious. I wore short sleeve tops all year round until this winter when I had to buy some woollens. Also, I was always the one turning the heating down. Now I'm the one turning it up!!

Sorry Paul and Choco-think we all hit the "go" button at the same time! Defren, it could of course be because you've lost some of your insulation!

Hi all. No, not coming down with anything, no temperature. Choco, I wonder if that's it. Getting better control, and weight loss. Like you, I would wear short sleeves all the time, and this house is very well insulated so very, very warm. I think it was around Thursday, Friday last week I began to feel the cold, before then every thing was fine. It was around then that my BG levels really started to drop and I was getting a few 4's. Could this all be related?

Grazer, from late last week I have only lost around 4lb, but did wonder if loosing the padding could have contributed?

Defren, if it's same as me then you'll find a big difference in your feet!! I never ever suffered from cold feet. Now, for the first time in my life, I've had to wear socks to bed sometimes as my feet are so cold. I wore sandals the other day and was desperate to get home and put my socks and slippers on!

It's all over marina, feet included. I am wearing socks and those faux fur little slipper booty's. Like you, usually I wear sandals, and when I first got control of my BG's I lost so much swelling from my ankles, that I could even wear sandals I bought a long time ago, then suddenly had the severe swelling. Due to that, I was so thrilled I wore them all the time. Now they are back in the shoe rack, and my little fluffy booties are out again. I could understand this if it had been gradual, but it just seemed to hit me at the back of last week.

If it is due to weight loss and/or BG control, I fear I may have to live with it. I sincerely hope not, as it really is not nice just feeling like a block of ice all the time.

Hi Defren

Your dieting is the cause of you feeling cold. Your body adjusts it's metabolism to conserve the few calories that it has. I don't know if you have ever met anyone with anorexia. You will notice that they have excessive downy hair on their limbs and it is the body's way of trying to keep warm. The body temperature regulator is affected by weight loss.

There are calculators you can use to find how many calories you need to keep your body ticking over. We burn calories 24 hours a day, even when we are sleeping.

Hi CC,

I am doing the Newcastle diet, and my weight loss has, shall we say been contentious. However, you have brought good news with the first article - thank you. Exercise will help. PT on the exercise forum also mentioned this, as being so cold has kept me off the treadmill today, when I should have tried doing more - lesson learned.

I personally have never known an anorexic, but have heard of that fine downy hair. My calorie intake is vastly down on what it should be due to the ND, I am taking in around 504 - 540 a day, depending on how much squash I drink a day. My diet has been low in calories for some time, initially I suffered with a very bad appetite suppressant problem due to the Metformin, and of course now with my choice to try the ND.

Your info suggests that with exercise it should be better, but until I finish the ND in 6 weeks and 5 days, I may have to accept this as a by product and consequence of lower BG readings. It seems to me, with diabetes, there are few things we can do without a bit of negative in the mix there somewhere. Hopefully soon, I shall find my middle ground.

Thank you.

ive got ice cold feet all the time, had the condition for years.diagnosed with type 1 last october 2012 could the diabetes be the cause .
