Bruises caused by Lantus injections

Has anyone experienced bruising (large bluish, slowly absorbing) bruises on the Lantus injection sites. Also, sites are painful and irritated for sometime after injections.

Everyone will bruise from time to time but if your sites are sore and irritated after injecting lantus then its likely you are having an allergic reaction to the insulin, have a word with your diabetes team as there are other basal insulins available.

I had to come off lantus as I had the same problem (it used to give me severe leg pain for 2hours after injection aswel) its worth mentioning to your diabetic team as noble head has already said, it might just be worth trying a new basal to see if that stops the pain and irritation

I found I bruised when the needle was not aimed in my flesh
straight .
Quickly learnt to aim straighter - and take more time with aim too .

Use the 5mm needle sizes now .

Bruising were big whopper sized ones too when it happened .
Since using a better technique and keep rotating site areas .
It has not happened since to myself .
