BS higher after night fast

I apologise if this has already been covered but I have not yet discovered how to navigate the forum pages for what I want.

I have only been diagnosed a Type 2 diabetic for a few weeks and am currently working to get my BS down to healthy readings.

Last night at 23:56 before bed, I took a BS reading of 7.9. This morning just before my breakfast at 9.48 it was 8.0. I have read about "Glucose dumping" on this site. Is this the cause of this type of reading? Is there anything I can do to stop it?

My first point is that you seem to have been flat overnight as there is no difference between 7.9 and 8.0.
My second thought is, when exactly did you test before breakfast? The most reliable reading is immediately you get up and before any pottering about, showering, dressing, or making breakfast.

What exactly are you worried about - your bedtime reading or your morning one? Your bedtime reading is a bit high, so if you can get that down, your morning fasting levels should improve.

The glucose dump or dawn phenomenon is where your liver dumps glucose in your system when it thinks you are "starving" and need help to wake up and start the day, or sometimes later in the day if you haven't eaten for a long time. If you type Dawn Phenomenon in the search box it will throw up a lot of threads about it.

I'm not actually worried about either reading as this is a lot lower than when I started testing. 7.9 is actually one of my lowest readings! haha. I was hoping that by morning i would be around 6.5 or 7 and was quite looking forward to it as my readings have been very high since it was discovered I was diabetic (First reading was 15.7).

I woke up and admittedly pottered around washing, getting ready etc before taking my reading just before my breakfast. I am still finding out about this condition and therefore find some things confusing, like why would my body think I was starving when my sugar levels are still very high.

Is it "normal" that my BS remain flat overnight? If not, is there anything I could do to help it reduce?
 
You may find your morning reading is the last to get better, as blue said DP..
You could also google insulin resistance

Your BG is coming down for only a few weeks, so you are doing a lot right.
Keep cutting the carbs I found the lchf and metformin worked for me

Your body thinks you are starving even though sugars high because it is no longer able to utilise all the glucose sloshing around in your bloodstream - insulin resistance means that your cells can't access this as fuel as easily as before so you feel fatigue and hunger. If you are overweight, losing some weight will help with this, as will a medication known as Metformin.

Tomorrow morning try testing as soon as you get up. Pottering around etc will encourage a liver dump in some people. There is a thread called Type 2's what is your morning fasting level that you may find useful to join in, where you can see how others are doing. (There are some good ones on there, so don't be put off!!)

My levels are almost always flat overnight. I have just averaged this since I started testing back in April. Overnight my levels have, on average, decreased by -0.1. Other people may have different experiences, but in the long run there is little you can do about liver dumps that is of any significance. It is a natural occurrence that everyone has to a smaller or greater degree.

Keep going, it is early days for you. Baby steps.
