BS level testing help

Sorry, this is probably a really simple questions! I'm type 2 currently controlled with diet and exercise. Advice on this forum has been invaluable and I have bought myself a testing kit which I use fairly often to check my levels. When people talk about their fasting BS level, is this the reading first thing in the morning? Or the reading before eating any meal?

Typically your first test before food in the morning.

It can be either! It is usually the waking blood glucose level.
But if you don't eat for over four hours, you will probably be at that level.
Most hospital blood tests are fasting for 12- 14 hours.
I've had a 72 fasting test! Wow! Wasn't that bad actually!
