BS levels after fasting

Today I had a blood sugar reading of 6.8 at midday yet I had not eaten anything for 16 hours. My BS readings are always in the 6's in the morning and don't move to 5.6 until late afternoon after eating lunch. Can anyone explain why this is happening?

Mine do the same. Isn’t this because of our helpful little liver releasing glucose for us? I asked today at surgery whether it meant my liver was losing fatty tissue but she had no idea, but I can hope!

Hi @Jesste (and @sue512 ). Because of Dawn Phenomenon or Foot on the Floor, morning fasting BG readings are usually the last to come down, I have been in remission for about 2yrs according to HbA1C, but my fasting BG figures (when I measure them) are still in the high 6.x 's
So this is to be expected.

Having not eaten for over 12 hours, it is thought that the liver starts using it's stores of fat to produce glucose to run your body, so as long as the rise is not too much it is infact a good thing.
