BS levels

When I was first diagnosed last September, I logged onto this site and had a reply from someone who said with the levels I gave I shouldn't have any problems getting levels into the 5s. I have cut out most of the carbs although I hadn't realised that I shouldn't really be eating fruit. I only had 2 portions or less a day but ate a banana if time was tight and didn't have time to eat anything else. I know look at bananas as if they have landed from another planet and shouldn't be touched. I get about 60% readings in the 5s before I eat my evening meal and often 2 hours after can still be in the 5s, the other 40% are in the 6s. Some levels, when I really feel I haven't eaten more than a small amount of carbs just shoot up and are higher 2 hours after eating. My other problem is my early morning teat. It can very between 6.1 and 7.3, yesterday it was 7.9. I seldom if ever have a reading of more than 7.9 whatever the time of day. I know of the dawn phenomena, have tried eating some protein before bed but..... Any advice please. I must admit that so many of you are so familiar with all the scientific stuff but it basically leaves me cold as I just do not understand it. Maybe I will understand some in the future but meanwhile. Hope someone understood what I am asking in my garbled way. Grief that was muddled. Basically what I am tring to say is that my diet has radically changed, I get loads more exercise, am loosing weight but am not happy with my levels

Broads ,your levels are really good! the morning one is problem for a lot of diabetics.many cannot overcome the 'dawn phenomenon 'at all no matter what they do.
Keep working on your diet but don't stress out about your levels ,they are well within acceptable range,as you learn more and lose more weight they may well come down a bit more.I would be more than happy with your numbers.

Thanks Sue. I have just spent so much of my time working towards diet and exercise, and reading lower levels on the forum that I am ......anxious. I have the results of my first Hba1c tst on Thursday and am a bit on edge about that.

Broads it really is not a competition.Yes some on here have low Hba1c's.I wish I was one of them. The important thing is to keep it under 7% lower if possible ,but,,,if not possible at least keep it under 7.I've got my fingers crossed for you on Thursday for your result.

Thanks Sue. Gonna log off and get some well needed sleep. After the birth of our first grandchild this morning and the end of the half term holiday, back to school tomorrow, I'm shattered mentally. I work in a primary school as a teaching assistant. I don't want to go back to work tomorrow. I retire in July after working 2 extra years. Wasn't ready to go last year but now can't wait to go. Thanks for your support. It really is appreciated

Will do. Hopefully get the nurse to write the results down for me as i still do not understand. Sweet dreams.

Paradoxically sometimes a few more carbs can shut down the liver, sometimes a few less carbs. Time to re-read this and see if there's anything you haven't yet tried?

For some people it doesn't happen at all, for others only insulin affects it. Your other numbers are excellent so I would consider it a low priority fix.

First visit to nurse today after completeing my round of tests. I wa so on edge
I must say I am absolutely bubbling with my results. I am so proud of myself if you don’t mind me blowing my own trumpet. I have lost 2 stone since mid September, lost two inches off my waist, cholesterol down 0.7 to 5.1 still a bit high but trig is 1.4, HbA1c 5.7, blood pressure 124/78, foot assessment 10/10. I did tell a little porky as I was so happy that I really didn't feel like having an argument with her about it. The nurse asked about home testing. I said I had a meter but hadn’t used it much and that I find it useful to check whether some foods spiked my sugar levels. I have actually used it far more but I could see she didn’t like the idea. It has helped me understand so much more about the food I eat. I do still eat some carbs but have dramatically cut down the amount. I shall carry on using my meter but not so often after today as I know now that what I am eating isn’t doing me any harm. If strips were cheaper I'd use it on a regular basis.I AM JUST SO CHUFFED. In fact I have just celebrated with a plate of home cooked chips. Yummy! A rare treat these days. Needless to say I haven't been anywhere near my meter.

What I really must do is THANK YOU ALL, FOR ALL THE INFORMATION ON THIS SITE AND ALL YOUR HELP, PUTTING UP WIT AND REPLYING TO MY SILLY QUESTIONS. It has made a world of difference .

THANK YOU ALL

Marvellous news broads, all your hard work has paid off. Hope you enjoyed the chips, nice treat and you deserved them.
Regards,
Catherine.

Brilliant stuff!

It's a pity you weren't up for a fight <G> as you could have educated the nurse that you wouldn't have achieved your results *without* testing. But sometimes it gets old rehashing the same argument.

Now put your shoes on and walk round the block, that'll help dispose of those chips
