Hi all,
This may seem like a stupid question but after nearly eight weeks my BS remains for the most part above 8 even though I have reduced my carb intake and walk at least 3 miles per day, what am I doing wrong? A typical days eating
Breakfast, oats so simple or 2 weetabix with semi skimmed milk.
Lunch 2 slices of bread(bergan) dry with sardines in olive oil or mackrel and a small piece of fruit.
Dinner Chicken with stir fried veg (olive oil)
and lots of tea  snacks would be some nuts usually pecan or some cheese.
My BS would be higher in the morning than when I went to bed, but I still feel light headed and wonder do I need to increase my carb intake?and if so won't this raise my blood sugers even higher, by the way still not seen a DN since DX at the beginning of Feb :o

Regards to all

Hi pallidan.

What meds and dosage are you on ?

Please do not increase carbs, worst thing you could do. Avoid Bread/Potato/Pasta/Rice/Cereals and root Veg to start with.

More advice from others will be soon on it's way

Hi Cugila,

Sorry ment to put that I am on 2x500mg Metformin twice daily.
With regard to Bread,Pasta,Rice etc they are rarely eaten and then in very small quantity and usually only when out for dinner,(could kill for a nice big bag of chips)
Breakfast and lunch were alien to me until I was DX but then I needed to change my whole lifestyle to try and cope with the problem and it ain't easy.

Regards
Harry

Oats-so-simple, Weetabix, bread (yes even Burgen) fruit, all contain carbs. If you look on the panels, you can work out how much you have in a day. If you are always at 8, you may be alittle high, but atleast it's not climbing and is staying steady.

hi there,

I had much the same problem as yourself and although new to this site i got lots of useful info,,, i also am on metformin, take 1 500mg before each meal ie breakfast lunch dinner,,,,

i managed to get the levels down by reducing carbs ie

breakfast 2 boiled eggs, 2 crispy pieces of bacon in microwave and 2 pieces of burgen.. i found any cereal put me through the roof,,,,,, ive even had frankfurters and lettuce and mini tomato for breaky

lunch,,, tinned tuna, salmon , fishy type plain with a little salt salad green peppers free veg maybe a couple of baby potatoes

evening meal......... anything i fancy within reason chicken red meat wholemeal pasta etc,

it works for me , but u need to experiment

hope this helps
