Autoimmune is where u have antibodies that are attacking your insulin-producing cells which leads to u being a slow-onset type 1 diabetic. Because of your age I would be asking for the antibody and the c-peptide test as there are quite a few people on here who have been overweight but have been young (early 30s etc) and have found out they are autoimmune rather than type 2 diabetic and were just assumed to be type 2 due to either their BMI or the fact they had GD... You might well be type 2 but better to know for sure rather than them stereotypically assuming like many GPs do. There's nothing to lose by getting full bloods ran as it will just give u more information
Diagnosed with GD in 2010, Completely disappeared postpartum. Re-diagnosed December 2012 with type 1.5 diabetes, age 26, BMI 22 currently controlled by only Metformin, 500mg twice a day.
