BS readings

I went out for lunch today and thought I'd chosen sensibly. Had a really bad headache afterwards but didn't have my meter. 5 hours later I was 8.2 so dread to think what it went up to. I logged my lunch on my fitness pal and was horrified to discover the parsnips I had were 40g carbs and the coffee was 12 g carbs on their own without the rest of my lunch ( which was ok) I thought I was quite savvy about food but just goes to show you

Not had tea yet and already blown the carb and calorie count for today

Just to check I've put my goals correctly into myfitnesspal - how many grams of carbs, fat, protein should I be aiming for ( or percentages) I'm trying to go quite low carb moderate fat ( epic fail today!)

Don't worry and don't beat yourself up. We all do it! I guess parsnips are off the menu from now on. ;) Tomorrow is another day.

No-one can really tell you how many carbs etc.. Everyone eats different amounts. It is trial and error according to what your body can cope with. Pick what you think will be a suitable amount of carbs for starting with (you can always change this). Then play around with the other two. MFP will work out the percentages, but you can change them round. The amounts of fats and protein will depend on how many calories you have decided on. You just need to play with it, then when you are more confident, you can change them.

Quick tip with MFP. Don't trust what it says as regards carbs and other nutrients. They are all member submitted and many are inaccurate. Always best to check either labels or internet or use a carbs book like Carbs & Cals (from Amazon), which by the way says parsnips roasted are 15 carbs per 80g.

Whoops spoke too soon. Had 2 burgers for luch with salad. Apparently more carbs in them from my butchers was 8.1 2 hours after lunch. More info for my notebook..
Oops.....but we have to try and see to know! I've been ok with birds eye all beef ones, butcher must use Rusk or similar ? Had my chicken and leek simmering all day.....mmmm

pre tea 8.3 post 9.1
i was naughty as went to visit a friend and had some birthday cake which could explain the highish reading tonight

I just get steak mince from my butcher, add some herbs, shape into burgers and grill. Not a carb in sight :-)

My second day in a row where I didn't exceed 5.8 all day. :bookworm:

Reading of 5.3 so just had scrambled eggs / bacon and mushrooms

Just wait until I see the nutritionist this morning :) ... and brother, the wife is just itching to rip into her :banghead:

Ha ha Mike. Can we have ringside seats??

I'll ask her :)

She isn't happy with her at all .... broken appointments / poor advice etc etc. Admittedly, some of the high readings were my fault. I over indulged in the Guinness two weeks back and the result was a 14.3 !!! That scared me witless so now I've substituted some decent red wine as my drink of choice.

Thanks alliebee

Allie. turkey mince makes really nice burgers. I fry a small red onion with a clove garlic till browned, let cool then add to the mince with a dash of hot chilli sauce( tabasco style) and a finely chopped chilli and some black pepper. Mix well with hands then form into burgers. chill till needed and cook till done( can do in oven ) and serve with salad- I like to lay a half slice of cheddar with jalapenos in it over top to melt.

Oh that's the way to my heart!! Goodness that sounds lush!!! I love turkey. Never used turkey mince. I shall be trying that one. Thankyou
I often add a splash of oil to the mix if the turkey mince very lean( I know Asda do a superlean one as well as the standard stuff).
