BS readings

thank you both.
my morning readings are still high but coming down
i would be overjoyed pre and after readings were below 6.9

Your morning numbers will come down. They are almost always the last to come down because there are so many reasons why they can be high, most of which is out of our control. Your pre and post numbers are coming down beautifully.

i,m very upset, just tested and its 10.1
i had some sugarfree jelly at 4pm and a cup of tea just before testing, would the hot drink have made a difference?

Oh dear, but please don't be upset. We all get these blips. It could have been your tea. Caffeine is known to raise BS levels in some people, and the milk will have had a tiny effect too. Have a silly dance about your room, wave your arms and legs about, get yourself a bit out of breath, or go for a brisk walk round the block. That should help bring it down again. Sometimes when we get an unexpected reading it is the meter playing up, and it is wise to test again just to confirm it.

my dad is tall as are all his siblings but my mum is quite small so I must have got her genes. I was really tall as a kid then hit puberty early and just stopped growing. I think now they should have done tests then as it seems obvious with hindsight that my endocrine system wasn't all it should be.
????? ..... Sorry to interrupt this thread but your comment has hit a nerve. I was 5' by the time I was 10 years old. This was also when I hit puberty and I am still 5' 34 years on. I also had my periods with 3 week intervals rather than 4..... Could this all be related to my diabetes now?

Ally....just remember where your levels used to be.......a few short weeks back you would have loved 10.1 after food! Don't be discouraged.......like I said before, just keep on keeping on.

@cold ethyl the previous post looks like it's for you. x:)

What was the reason you were testing Ally? It's not clear if it was after your dinner, or for some other reason. And, did you wash your hands and test again when you got the 10.1?

Never let a single roque reading upset you. Concentrate on the bigger picture and the overall trend of your results which are definitely improving.

If your periods were irregular ( I'm including short regular cycles in this) then it is possible that you might have Poly cystic ovary syndrome which can be linked to insulin resistance , weight gain and thus type 2 diabetes. I started my periods at 9 which I think is very young and have had lots of fertility issues so I wasn't entirely surprised to be diagnosed.

andbreathe, it was for pre tea testing and i washed my hands

post tea 8.4, i had corned beef, tomatoes, beetroot and egg
i only ate a little partly because i was still upset and partly because i wanted it to be lower

Were you really hungry?

It could be you had a big liver dump. That's when your blood goes a bit lower than your body is comfortable with and your liver effectively releases glucose to buoy it up. That dump (if it was that) would show on a test.

I know you say you had washed your hand, but did you wash them again and re-do the test after the 10.1? I couldn't quite tell from your last post.

Ahaaaaaaaah.

I think most of us have had the odd reading that has been way, way off. It could be something on your finger, a dodgy strip or just inexplicable. But, there is one thing that's certain (and you know it), it's annoying!!!

If that ever happens again (you get a completely unexpectedly high, or very low reading), just wash your hands again and re-do the test. If it's a dodgy strip or something on your finger, that usually fixes it.

Bearing in mind your great after dinner reading, just forget that 10.1 and put it down to experience. If you only ate a little for dinner, as you say, you may want to have a very small snack to make sure you don't get too hungry. Perhaps a slice of corned beef if you have any left, or some jelly and cream?

It's all an annoying puzzle sometimes.
