BS readings

now i know bread, potatoes and peas give me high readings, i,m going to keep away from them
now i have to tackle my portion sizes
Do you like fish? Like salmon and mackerel. Kippers are a different and tasty breakfast. I don't care for tinned salmon but I love mackerel fillets. I take tins to work because they're convenient. Sometimes I have it with salad but I also like it on toasted burgen bread. I buy tesco tinned mackerel in olive oil. I drain some oil off and keep for cooking other food in. I also drizzle some of the oil on the warm toast then place the mackerel on top. Delicious. I've recently discovered a new line by Princes. It's smoked mackerel in olive oil with Italian herbs. It's £1.69 a tin but does 2 meals. It's scrumptious and now I've got a colleague addicted to it too!
Congratulations on the super progress you're making. :-)

@ally1 Did I just read that your fasting BG was 9.5 this morning?!!!!:D Well done, I am dancing round the room celebrating this news.:singing: Can't wait till tomorrow:)

In the warmer weather, my staple lunch was:

- Grab soup/pasta plate, add handful of salad leaves.
- Pull ring-pull on can of mackerel on lemon oil or spicy tomato sauce or mustard sauce
- Fold fish in lightly, and eat.

That takes about 2 minutes, and is delicious, and with the variety of sauces I tended not to get bored. I haven't had it for several weeks now the weather is much cooler.

Alternatively, you could buy mackerel fillets (They're great value for money) and either blend of mash in some mayonnaise to make a rough pate. You can pile that onto celery sticks, or if you're like me and don't care for celery, it can be piled onto sliced cucumber. Another delicious lunchtime or snacky idea.

I love my fish. :hungry:

pre breakfast 9.5 post breakfast 14.7 a bit of a hike
Yes ally I wonder what is spiking you....what did you eat and drink after your fasting test? It's probably one culprit, let's find out what it is!

I tell you what I've noticed. I have to eat v soon after getting up else my bg just rise and rise. I noticed this after having only 2 hard boiled eggs for breakfast. I knew they wouldn't spike me so it had to be the rise from my liver going up and the fact I didn't have breakfast until an hour and a half after getting up

Don't despair Ally, keep going - it's a hike, keep testing to see how it comes down - what did you have for breakfast to spike you?

I've discovered the secret of eating baked beans. POUR OUT THE SAUCE! Seriously, there's just crazy amounts of sugar in that stuff. Half a tin of baked beans sans sauce does almost nothing to my numbers.
Just wondered why anyone would buy baked beans then strain of the sauce why not just buy a tin of plain haricot beans... same beans no sauce

I agree with the others Ally, something in that breakfast caused the rise ..... or another rogue reading? Or as @alliebee said, if your brekkie was delayed a bit, it could have been a liver dump.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I do it when I am cooking baked beans for the rest of the family already. I just strain mine, so it's less bother than preparing yet another separate item.

Have you tried mashing pilchards in tomato sauce with cream cheese! Yum!
