bs, smoking and weight

You just did - and when you tell me why you're asking I'll answer..
I'm just wondering as there would, in my view, be few non-smokers or HCPs who would advocate smoking over the longer term. Sometimes the time is not right to give up, or when the individual has bucket full of stressors in their lives, or is already very aged and has smoked heavily forever.

In my view, the links to lung disease in general, cancer and heart disease are too strong for any advice other than to give up asap.

Because how you're justifying smoking is the thought process equivalent of a junkie trying to justify his heroine addition. The only difference is that nicotine kills you a little slower.

Not necessarily (slower). Some cardio can be pretty dramatic and rapid.

@ally1 - I'm so sorry to be derailing your thread.

I appreciate it can't be easy to give up. I have watched several people try, with mixed success, but at your age, it is likely to be extremely beneficial to your overall health.

I packed up smoking in the first years of this century. I'll admit to 40 a day at that time (it was more). The darn patches wouldn't stick. The chewing gum got stuck in my teeth. Eventually I found lozenges and packed up. My wife (who smoked as many) packed up at the same time using just mint imperials! Your Doc can help these days.

Last March I developed a lump. So I bought a pack of cigars. My brain switched back on! I've since switched to vaping - not quite as good in terms of the effect, but not bad.

Prior to chemo (this month) my consultant said "No smoking!". I told him I didn't smoke, I vaped. He indicated that is fine - doesn't have the carcinogenics that smoke does. I have put a kilo or so back on though but with the lump (and my assumption as to what it was) I haven't been as strict with my LCHF regime (lost 10 kilo over 14 months with that and I don't think I was ever hungry).
