I have been testing my BS after each meal and snack and have come to the conslusion that I will have to eat LCHF diet from now on! (I was hoping the low GI would be ok for me) Weetabix, porridge made with water and toast all spiked me to around 14mmol/l!!! I found that bacon and eggs are OK, but I don't really want to eat bacon every day as it's too processed, and there are health implications with that.

This morning I had soya yogurt plus blueberries. My waking BS was 8.3, took my BS 2 hours later and it was 12.8!! Why would that be, as soya yogurt is much lower in carbs than ordinary yogurt. Could the small amount of milk in my tea and coffee do it? But then I had them yesterday and BS behaved well.

I should say I took 10u Novomix just after breakfast this morning (and I take 8u with evening meal)

Hi Linda,

I get a similar issue with raspberries and yoghurt for breakfast - but only sometimes. Having looked in detail at what's going on with my BG around that time, I've found that my BG is already rising - from the time I wake up and take my basal insulin to the time I have breakfast (about half hour usually), my BG can have risen by 2.5 - 3mmol. I was testing on waking and then using that as the basis for my breakfast bolus, so I was routinely under-dosing. I have also found that my Apidra rapid-acting isn't really rapid enough to deal with the natural rise plus my breakfast, so I now take my rapid-acting at the same time as my basal to give it time to start working before I eat my breakfast. I also add 1.5 units on top of what i would normally take for yoghurt and raspberries.

I'm afraid i don't know how you would apply any of that to a mixed insulin such as Novomix, but it might give you a clue as to what is going on.

What was the carb content of the soy yogurt? Some soy is sweetened so it may have higher levels than you expect. Also not everyone can eat berries- how big a portion?

Thanks for that cold ethyl
The soya yogurt says it is 2.1g per 100g, and I threw in a small handful of blueberries

i tried yoghurt and berries for breakfast and couldn,t get used to the taste of the yoghurt
