so I'm a very active person and I want to put on a bit of muscle for jiu jitsu training but the problem one is you need to consume a number of calories to do this but obviously as a diabetic eating large amounts isn't a good and supliments are totally out of the question so anyone got any advice on this

Protein. For growth and repair.

Truer words were never spoken.

Exercise causes Micro Damage to muscles, although it sounds bad this is a good thing.
You get bigger muscles by straining/ripping or tearing them, Micro Damage, them the body sends protein to repair the damage causing them to grow back bigger.

It's a common belief that you need to eat 30 mins after exercise to get the best benefit from protein. But this is wrong the body burns calories, from exercise for up to 24 hours so upping your protein intake during that period is all good for you.

The bulk of the repair work is done at night when your asleep.:bookworm:
This makes so much sense when you stop and think about it, like shutting down a power plant overnight to do routine maintenance.

I make sure my last meal in the day is high in protein.;)

Agreed. I should have added that calories can come from good fats to my initial comment.
