bull ****

I know how you feel. I gave up alcohol 5 years ago and my blood work is worse after. I made the decision that alcohol and insulin don't go together but sometimes wonder if it would be just the same as old times.

I am convinced moderate acohol consumption, for me 2 glasses of red wine at night, is a good thing. It definitely reduces my bg and I have never noticed that it rises at a later time.

Lots of interesting stuff here. I did a good test last night: after work 85. 1 hour PP 106 2 hour PP and after more nuts and 3 glasses of red wine 130 No protein snack taken before bed Morning fasting 100
That seems like a good regime to me.

You know what our grandparents may have had it right:

  1. Three modest meals, balanced meals a day
  2. No processed food
  3. Post parandial supper walk
  4. Night cap - double scotch

It would be interesting to see the graph of diabetes increase over the last 100 years.

Also the incidence geographically. Working in Uganda recently I was amazed at the HUGE plates of food people were eating. Balanced - but whacking great quantities of heavy, heavy carbs as the main portion. When I enquired I was told that in the area I was - a relatively rich farming area it was not uncommon to consume EIGHT such plates a day!! I have a huge appetite but I could not consume 1!!!!

Nigeria has a better diet but I see a huge number of obese people - mainly women.

Kenya is not so bad.

I'm still not convinced it's a good idea to self medicate with something that the liver treats as a toxin, but hey if it works for you......:)

Yes, alcohol is great if you want to reduce your blood sugars, and especially if you don't mind increasing your risk of cancer. In terms of cancer risk, for alcohol, there is NO safe limit.

And alcoholic fatty liver may take a while to develop but when it does, your diabetes will be back with a vengeance.

There are many reasons for boozing, but good health ain't one of'em.

Mod Edit: Correction needed in regards to the cancer comment.
