I use my legs for long acting insulin and don't usually feel much unless it's a new pen that I've just taken out of the fridge.

I use my buttocks for long acting and my thighs, and it stings like aaaah! I have tried slowly injecting the plunger and quickly, nothing. And this is because I feel I have been changed to Abasaglar recently and the pens don't agree with me, never had an issue with Levemir, or NovoRapid, I assumed this was because of NovoNordisk being superior in engineering their pens, however, you're using Novolog which is Novo Nordisk too.

I think for me it is the new solution in the pen, it never used to sting and has put a tear in my eye thats how bad it has stung!

Why were you changed, did you request it?

The GP insisted because it was cheaper, and also mentioned Levemir being in short supply in my area. I have a hospital appointment soon so will dispute as the GP seems to think it is a direct replacement for Levemir

I use Abasaglar, it's a biosimilar product to Lantus, not Levemir, - sorry if you know that already - but your quack has got his facts wrong.

I know, I was on Lantus when first diagnosed. 3 years in they put me on Levemir twice daily, the same time I completed the DAFNE course as it would help with that.

Now on Abasaglar, I still take it twice daily, because I haven't been told how I should take it properly, my GP just said like you Levemir, I had to reduce my dosage to where I am now comfortable.

What is your experience of being on that Insulin? Quack Quack :D

I take my Abasaglar once a day at approximately 19:00 give or take an hr. I find it doesn't really last 24hrs as it's supposed to but I haven't tried splitting.

I am moving to Levemir soon, probably next weekend if I can sort the script. I persuaded the endo to let me try it and see if it receives my allergies.

I liked Levemir, good luck and I hope its a smooth transition :) it was really easy I thought to switch. I will see how I go on this and if Endo doctor has any queries when I see them at end of october

Could it be cause I used my thigh for a premixed insulin?

I used to inject pre-mixed in my legs without any issues like burning.

Sure, I can sometimes put the needle against my leg and feel it is a sensitive area, so moving an inch ( or 2.54 cm if you prefer metric) to the left or right can find a less sensitive area.

What is the needle size and what kind of premix insulin are you using?

4mm and Novolog mix 70/30. My second try worked better. Then it started again. More like the area is warm and I feel the a flowing sensation. Not as bad as the first time only on my right thigh it happens.

It seems only my right thigh feels that way. It feels warm and like the insulin flowing.

Hi, Some long-acting insulin formulations (like Glargine) are acidic to keep the insulin in solution. When they are injected the higher pH in the body tissue causes the insulin to drop out of solution which is part of the long-acting mechanism. This slightly acidic pH of the insulin can sting or burn for a short while in my experience - though not always (I inject in my stomach adipose). Though, not familiar with Novolog so may be sommat else!
