Hi,recently taken off Empagliflozine by DN who thought said medication was not working-fasting bloods 7--10.Since then fasting bloods 12---16.Now want to introduce BYDUREON injection once a week.Anybody had any experience of this drug and any problems. On a whole host of other meds--Atenolol-Simvastatin-Rivaroxoban-Gliclazide and was on Pioglitazone till recently.

When I was concerned about trying new meds and how my meds work together I popped in to see my local Pharmacist (on a quiet day) . She was absolutely brilliant and really helped me with two meds I'd been prescribed that I was having dreadful side affects with and another two meds that didn't work well together. It's what they are trained for. She even phoned my doctor to discuss it while I was there and a new prescription was waiting for me when I walked round to the surgery.

My DN tried me on it a few years ago as gliclazide made me gain a lot of weight very quickly, but unfortunately it didn't work for me, the drugs just sat under my skin in a lump and weren't absorbed by my body, ended up switching back to dapagliflozin, & sitagliptin very quickly, as I was running at 10-12 mmol and feeling absolutely rotten because of it

Hi. Can you tell us more about your diet and BMI? It sounds like you may have some excess weight and if so having a low-carb diet is essential. If you do have excess weight and hence some insulin resistance I might query the Gliclazide as it could be adding more insulin when you have too much already. I don't know what your other drugs do, apart from the statin, so these may be involved as well but be careful you don't keep adding additional drugs without a discussion with the GP about what each is intended to do. Do give the right diet priority.
