I have taken the decision to close my account and have requested this via mods so will not be posting again.
Best wishes to all and good luck on your journies with diabetes, whichever path you choose.
Just remember that diabetes is a sneaky little ****** that ensures that 1) what works for you at this point in time may well not work so well in the future and 2) what works for one person's body will not necessarily work for any / everybody else, no matter how strong their belief

thanksBadcat - I haven't seen your request to have your account closed yet, but of course that's your right and to be respected.
I think the balance of you post is very sage, and it is something we see over and over again. Things happen if life. Some are possible to control and some not. Sometimes doing all the right things just doesn't result in the desired outcome, no matter how hard we try.
Often when someone posts a thread, such as your own, I ask them to consider just taking some time away from the forum to reflect, and then if they still feel they'd like their account closed, to let us know. This can be done by emailing forum@diabetes.co.uk, if preferred to coming back onto the site.
Whatever you choose, I wish you well.
Thanks
I emailed Giverney asking for my account to be
thanks
I sent the meassage to giverney asking for my account to be deleted, so not sure why that isnt showing
My reasons for leaving are not to do with my personal circumstances but rather to what I see happening on this forum, which closely matches the toxicity I saw in 2012/13 when I was previously an active member - different dogma, same processes
This is from the e mail I sent Giveney and I think the forum, its moderators and its members need to decide what they want the forum to be - single issue, single approach or a broader site
"I think the forum urgently needs find a way of confining advise re particular ways of managing diabetes so that what is happening at the moment, and what I also saw happening in 2012/13, can no longer happen. What I see happening is a very small number (less than 10) members who answer every question with the same dogmatic dietary advive no matter what the question or the medical status of the person asking it, and then go on to try and drown out any other views - this also extends to them giving strident opinions regrding whether or not other people should thak their diabetic medications, - it is potentially v dangerous and certainly v disrespectful to newbies in particular. Sad to see that it seems to be a particular issue with a small number iof T2 members"
Shame. All the best.I have taken the decision to close my account and have requested this via mods so will not be posting again.

Badcat, I regret your decision, though having read further on in this thread, I do understand "where you are coming from" and sympathise. I'd much prefer that you stay and continue to give your excellent, sane advice, perhaps while simply ignoring the turmoil around you. Not easy, I know. It's good that new members do get sent a long standard article giving them good information in a balanced way. I hope that counteracts to an extent the dismay they may feel on being clobbered with the keto hard sell. For me the helpfulness and support here far outweigh the rather regrettable fanaticism. After all, if I don't like what I am reading I can always click on to another thread!I have taken the decision to close my account and have requested this via mods so will not be posting again.

Kudos to you for speaking your mind, it's a sad, sad time for the forum just now as everyone lives in fear of those whom mock and belittle those who don't eat the same way as they do.Badcat, I regret your decision, though having read further on in this thread, I do understand "where you are coming from" and sympathise. Well, I wanted to support you, and now maybe I'll be getting death threats!!! Very best wishes for the future, and thanks for your past input.
If it's a small number of people then why take any notice of them. Who are they to you anyway. Unless of course you are having death threats and then contact the police.
Is there an option to block seeing what some people post?
Oh, Wow! I never got a Winner's badge before!Kudos to you for speaking your mind, it's a sad, sad time for the forum just now as everyone lives in fear of those whom mock and belittle those who don't eat the same way as they do.
