I have taken the decision to close my account and have requested this via mods so will not be posting again.
Best wishes to all and good luck on your journies with diabetes, whichever path you choose.
Just remember that diabetes is a sneaky little ****** that ensures that 1) what works for you at this point in time may well not work so well in the future and 2) what works for one person's body will not necessarily work for any / everybody else, no matter how strong their belief

@badcat Don't go - I love your posts they are so balanced! It strikes me that more people who consider all options tend to drop off the radar leaving only LCHF fans. Whilst they are brilliant to have the forum will be less so for not having balance.

I don't know why you have taken the decision to go but I wish you would reconsider. This forum is about giving support to one another and advice on how we can cope with our condition. Personally, I have no preconception either for or against any diet or approach. If it helps someone to manage his condition then I am all for it. In fact the more approaches there are with which people have been successful the better as it means there are more options available.

Having said that I wish you would reconsider, you are free to make your own mind and I wish you the best whatever your final decision.

I'm very sorry to see you go @badcat - you always give a great balanced view and are genuine in your advice and replies, you will be missed, maybe you may feel you could come back in the future - I do hope so, wish you all the best take care xxx

Badcat - I haven't seen your request to have your account closed yet, but of course that's your right and to be respected.

I think the balance of you post is very sage, and it is something we see over and over again. Things happen if life. Some are possible to control and some not. Sometimes doing all the right things just doesn't result in the desired outcome, no matter how hard we try.

Often when someone posts a thread, such as your own, I ask them to consider just taking some time away from the forum to reflect, and then if they still feel they'd like their account closed, to let us know. This can be done by emailing [email protected], if preferred to coming back onto the site.

Whatever you choose, I wish you well.

I sent the meassage to giverney asking for my account to be deleted, so not sure why that isnt showing
My reasons for leaving are not to do with my personal circumstances but rather to what I see happening on this forum, which closely matches the toxicity I saw in 2012/13 when I was previously an active member - different dogma, same processes

This is from the e mail I sent Giveney and I think the forum, its moderators and its members need to decide what they want the forum to be - single issue, single approach or a broader site

"I think the forum urgently needs find a way of confining advice re particular ways of managing diabetes so that what is happening at the moment, and what I also saw happening in 2012/13, can no longer happen. What I see happening is a very small number (less than 10) members who answer every question with the same dogmatic dietary advive no matter what the question or the medical status of the person asking it, and then go on to try and drown out any other views - this also extends to them giving strident opinions regrding whether or not other people should take their diabetic medications, - it is potentially v dangerous and certainly v disrespectful to newbies in particular. Sad to see that it seems to be a particular issue by a small number of T2 members"

Nb edited to correct a typo

Ah Badcat - I Know Giverny is very tied up at the moment, with "stuff" at head office, so she may not have seen your PM as yet. It's usually useful to add more than one Mod to any PMs, in case one is away or whatever.

I'm going to hit the Report button on your post; to ensure all Mods have the opportunity to see it, and discuss.

The forum certainly doesn't support only "one true way" of approaching diabetes, because we are all different, even if the same classification of diabetes. As you know, so many factors are in play for any given individual.

It is probably not a bad time to remind members that they should utilise the Report button , should they feel something is breaching rules or if they have other concerns.

Badcat, if you feel you would like to discuss this further, via PM or email, please feel free to send a PM or use the email address I posted before.

Shame. All the best.

A sad loss to the forum @badcat, many of us will miss your balanced, appropriate and level headed insight.

Unfortunately, many of us can appreciate your reasoning for leaving this forum. It has become somewhat of a toxic environment, and unfortunately, an absolute one sided, broken and agonising place to be. It's the sad truth and the unfortunate reality we find ourselves in, here on the DCUK forum.

I wish you all the best in your future ventures and do hope that should you find yourself in an alternative online environment; that is not one full of ridicule and doltish blindness.

Badcat, I regret your decision, though having read further on in this thread, I do understand "where you are coming from" and sympathise. I'd much prefer that you stay and continue to give your excellent, sane advice, perhaps while simply ignoring the turmoil around you. Not easy, I know. It's good that new members do get sent a long standard article giving them good information in a balanced way. I hope that counteracts to an extent the dismay they may feel on being clobbered with the keto hard sell. For me the helpfulness and support here far outweigh the rather regrettable fanaticism. After all, if I don't like what I am reading I can always click on to another thread!

Well, I wanted to support you, and now maybe I'll be getting death threats!!! Very best wishes for the future, and thanks for your past input.

Kudos to you for speaking your mind, it's a sad, sad time for the forum just now as everyone lives in fear of those whom mock and belittle those who don't eat the same way as they do.

If it's a small number of people then why take any notice of them. Who are they to you anyway. Unless of course you are having death threats and then contact the police.

Is there an option to block seeing what some people post?

@badcat I'll miss you too

I think things have gone full circle on this forum now. I remember this thread.

http://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/threads/are-we-losing-the-plot.65398/

Interesting how things have changed. Same old same old but now it's the non LCHFers who feel persecuted. This should be a place where we can all feel comfortable posting no matter what diet or methods we used to control diabetes.

Btw Where's Azure? She usually gives a good balanced view of things.

I think Badcat is concerned about the harm that may be done to newcomers who are often already dealing with the violent shock and confusion of a new diagnosis. When a person goes in the blink of an eye from a world where food is a pleasure and comfort, to be indulged in freely, to one in which everything edible, particularly the nicer foods, carries a label, "Eat me at your peril, for I may maim or kill you", it is IMO not yet the moment to tell that person to cut his/her carbs to under 30 a day. S/he may well not even know what a carb is. Even wicked sects apply better psychology than this. Softly softly! Suggest home testing and let their meter show them the consequences of what they are eating and motivate them to eat fewer carbs, and then perhaps fewer still, until, who knows, they may end up as keto enthusiasts after all. I write from experience of my own recent trajectory, though I'm fairly far from keto as yet.

Well all I can say is bye, wish you well for the future and hope you may return at some point.
