Bygone days ....

It wasn't to long ago they stopped doing that. Stopped the riff raff! When you played darts, pool snooker etc at these clubs the away team got signed in.

Hodge is offal of mutton often served cold. Not aware that where hodge-lodge comes from.

Me too. Now you're making me feel old and that's not allowed after I've done 2 1/2 hours of exercise!

The walk home from school! I remember that! I was a latch key kid!
@andy 1234 , talking of roaming dogs, white dog poo! Why don't we have that anymore?!

As a child of the 60s the closest I can get to your gas lamps are gas lamps in caravans. They always struck me as a dangerous thing, but then I was too scared to strike a match until I was well into my teens.
Had one explode on my leg! Tiny scar!

Yay...the corona delivery van.....that's what started me off on fizzy drinks.....and diabetes.
And free plastic cowboys and Indians toys in the cornflakes packs
Oh yes, I remember those. And the pop van. Dandelion and burdock and cream soda if you were lucky too!

I only really liked the Cream Soda!

I daren't ask by which route Mo

Party 4s and Party 7s still de rigueur at uni in the 70s.

Hirondelle wine? Blue Nun ? Mateus Rose?

And me, first home. Had to do the shops or other chores before the family rolled in. If anything wasn't done, well, I would kop it one way or another.
My worst nightmare would be having to go the bagwash by myself or the community laundry. My mum would make a show of me and how embarrassing is that?

This is a whole new world to me! Bagwash, community laundry, chores? So this is the second thread today to make me feel lazy.

OK, I wasn't lazy. I helped a lot, but I worked alongside my Mum and Dad, because we had a farm and they were always home when I got in. So I s'pose it's the latch key kid bit that's different really. It didn't feel like work because it was time with the family too.

Try clearing the ashes from the hearth and then building a fire in the freezing cold in winter. At weekends, this was done very early, as my dad was an early riser. On schooldays I was first so I got to do the fire and other chores.
The coal was next to the outside toilet in the coal bunker. Outside toilet oh my god! I forgotten about that!

yes, I did the fire occasionally at weekends, but it was never 'my job' as such.

Never been on a farm!

Total city kid! Worked in a factory for forty years, nearest I got to grass was playing or watching footie!

Oh right...so you had time to play and watch footie? Some of us were mucking out the pigs and cows while you were playing footie!
