Hi is it possible to just naturally have low (but still in normal range) c peptide and never develop type I? Antibodies are all negative (although waiting for the rare results still). Have no symptoms, twice weekly fastings are late fours or very early fives. Had GDM with a two hour result of 11.2 in the GTT hence being monitored now. Hba1c is low too. Of course I may be grasping at straws. If the rare antibodies are negative then they will do a genetic test. Thanks

Yes, it is possible to have low peptide test. Last week I received my test results for both C-Peptide Serum, and GAD-65. My C-Peptide was 0.6, considered low since range is between 1.1 - 4.4 ng/ml. My GAD-65 was >250.0, considered high, range is between 0.0 - 5.0 U/ml. However, I was also concerned by c-peptide results. I was told by doctor's office and doctor I didn't have to fast for c-peptide test. When reviewing my test it says fasting, again I asked doc and he said not to worry (I do, as gp diagnosed me wrong to begin with, and never did either test till I requested them). When I see specialist in July I will ask further about this. What other test tests are you having? My HGB A1C, was a 15 last November, doctor has never ordered another one.

Hi sorry I think my post was a little confusing but thanks for answering. I meant to ask whether it is possible to just have naturally low levels of insulin (without having type I or Lada or anything else diabetes related). At the moment my antibodies are negative and my hba1c is 34 (so 5.3) and therefore well in the non diabetic area

It is completely possible but we cannot tell you if that is the case with you.

Ok, now I get it! lol I don't know the answer, but am glad that your levels are in good range! Hope all else turns out well.

Thanks, how would my doctors find out? By six monthly tests to see if the levels change? It seems that every time the test is done the units of measurement have changed and also it is never done as a fasting test.

C-peptide should always be done as a fasting test because it is trying to measure baseline insulin levels. Those levels change from minute to minute and c-peptide is running a bit behind current levels. Once you throw food in the mix it is hard to say what is going on. I think all you really can do is just keep an eye on things over time. Your doctor seems to be doing more than most to investigate and that is a very good thing for you :) If your blood sugars suddenly rise a lot or you start losing weight rapidly then you need to go back to your doctor immediately.
