Caffeine

I think that decaf tea and coffee has improved in recent times as I tried it years ago and it was revolting but now.......... can't tell the difference. Have also found that caffeinated DOES make a difference to my BGLs, not huge but I like the better result!
In my early years of bush fire fighting and one piece overalls I soon learned not to accept cans of caffeine fizz as my bladder needed emptying frequently and when much of the bush has burnt there aren't too many places a woman can answer the call of nature with privacy. Lucky standard issue today is two piece overalls and along with bottled water, our Brigade is putting in some diet options in drinks in cans as per my request.

Hi all haven't posted in a long time but just thought I'd throw in that I'm one of those who's blood sugar goes up if I have coffee (black no milk). Spent ages trying to get a brand that didn't raise it ... I really miss not drinking coffee  also green tea raised my blood sugar levels too (not too disapointed by that tho  , think the brand was Clipper)

It's weird and just reflects the fact that there are no hard and fast rules for a lot of us and we are indeed all at least a little bit different.

I drink quite a bit of the old twinings infusion range now (pretty sure they are all caffiene free)... slowly getting used to 'some' of them, but will never replace a good old cup of coffee :D

All the best peeps and keep on keeping on :D

RichardNY,

Try the decaff versions rather than give up altogether. I can't say I've noticed green tea raising my bg, but as you say we are all different.

To be honest I might just give that a shot, after all this time last year I wouldn't have even considered herbal infused tea ! but quite like the blackcurrant, ginseng and vanilla after another fellow diabetic pointed me in that direction. I suspect though it's just a basic intolerance to caffiene with me (hence the same reaction to the green tea in my case). Can't hurt that much to try and my palette has definately changed over the past year so I probably won't be able to tell the difference between decaf and normal anymore

All the best.
Richard.

ive switched to decaff coffee and stoped the zero coke and pepsi max since the last post. dull ache in groin has gone and my peeing has slowed right down. also i dont get a spike from coffe anymore which i assumed was the milk but it looks like it was the coffee. that coke zero is lethal it raises your first rather than quenches it. ive swithched to asda own branded diet lemonade 40p for 2 litres. it still works out cheaper than the bogofs that are always on pepsi max and coke zero. one thing i have noticed since being diabetic, most things that are good for you as in healthy always come at a premium. anything on offer or bogof i dont even look now because i no its carb riden food
