California Dreaming 2

Hi, Suzi. Glad to hear I didn't bore you. Shame about the rain on your holiday, though. I didn't think to add anything about coeliac but you're right, they are well catered for with gluten free products in the supermarkets and special dishes in many restaurants. If you're going to eat out, though, I'd ask as you go in as some restaurants are very careful about offering alternative dishes while others aren't. There are even products and meals for people with lactose intolerance.
Hope you have a great time in California next year, but if I can offer a bit of advice, go in the springtime or in the autumn for the best weather. Summer can be foggy as the warmer air over the very cold sea creates an offshore fogbank that can roll in over the coast. That's why we're delighted to be returning for two months starting in April next year.

Thanks for the info Bill. When we first went to California it was at the end of March and was perfect, and hit Washington DC at beginning of April which proved to be much like our mild winters. Hubby is going to Washington in May as they do a Police week which is awesome, and we'll probably just have to work round kids school holidays, though to me theres no better education than travel and if i have to take them out of school, so be it. Plenty of time to plan when hubby gets confirmation of his retirement dates next March, and we're hoping he'll be out of the Police by May, along with his healthy lump sum and pension. Til then i'll just dream of blue skys, crystal azure seas and seafood to die for.
Take care,
Suzi x

That's good news for you, Suzi. I'm sure you'll enjoy California in May - the weather will be gorgeous. Hope everything works out for Andrew's retirement; anybody who's spent that long in the police in your area deserves to enjoy his retirement. If there's any information I can help you with, just post a message or drop me a PM. Always pleased to help. Didn't I tell you a while ago that your time to travel will come? You're getting close now, and once the kids start work you'll be free as birds. Hope you get a lot of upgrades on your flights. Of course, it helps if you're as handsome as I am. :P
Today we saw on the news the horrific forest fires raging on the Santa Cruz Mountains. We saw film of the town of Bonny Doon being evacuated as the flames were getting close. We know this place well as there is a vineyard there where we've bought wine in the past. It's close to the road that runs from Santa Cruz to Half Mopon Bay. We're keeping our fingers crossed for the people we've got to know there.
