every time I go to the doctors I feel like I’m being lectured about my diabetes and how to control it which just makes me not want to go cause i feel like I’m being spoken down to.
Some doctors are, how shall we say............not people persons - they may know tonnes of good stuff but interpersonal skills are lacking some what.
I'm going to be devils advocate here so don't take it personally, I am a nice guy really
What you deem as being lectured and spoken down to is perhaps just the way she is or perhaps she's at the end of her tether with you? - welcome to the adult world!, are you taking notice of what she is saying? In your last encounter what was said? (obviously you don't have to post it here, but can you remember the gist of it?) Do you just sit there and take it? is there a 2 way dialogue? are you proactive with your care and your clinic appointments? It's your condition you manage it - you have to live with it, you are 100% responsible for looking after it not the doctor.
Back to me, normal nice guy
I suspect the transition from child to adult care is large and daunting (I've not been there!) and things just aren't managed in the same way as before as far as you're concerned. But you do have to take ownership of your condition.
bad interpersonal skills is not an excuse for Doctors to be rude or condescending or to make the patient feel as you do, but it does happen and you either need to address this with an open and frank discussion with them (she may not even be aware how you feel) or change doctors.
At your next appointment - go in prepared, say you've tried x y and z that she 'suggested' (told you to do), or say last time you said do x but didn't explain properly to me in a way I understood.......or I've been thinking that maybe my basal is too low and my boluses aren't working because my BG is always high, can I change bolus or split it or can I have a Libre on prescription or...or.....
Try and do most the talking, she won't have time or get a word in edge ways to talk down to you!
