Hi all

I know food alternatives are discussed quite a lot on this forum, However I am struggling to put together a simple meal that is healthy. My problem is I can not stomache most alternatives. Things such as cauliflower rice and salad, vegetables etc. I have tried many things over the past 12 months none of which I can even try to like. I am ok reducing my sugars by cutting out sweets cakes biscuits etc, but I’m struggling with my carbs. I find it difficult to put together a decent meal that I enjoy unless it has potatoes, rice or pasta. Any advice would be great. Cheers

Maybe it would be easier to start with the things you do like? If you could give some examples of the foods you do like it’ll be easier for people to make suggestions.

My whole family enjoyed our evening meal, it was roast chicken and halloumi chips with broccoli. I then had three salami 'crisps' and a mug of tea. Low carb, delicious and so satisfying. Have you tried Dietdoctor.com? Great recipes there.

It's not always about what you eat but can be about how much, set your self a daily limit on how many grams of carbs you can allow your self then deduct the items you eat from that if you have a potato or a small portion of rice or pasta then that comes of your allowance that you have set your self you do not have to be too rigid in your diet be flexible and that way you will not feel too deprived of the things you like. And of course if you have a meter test for the foods that you cannot eat without spiking your bloods too much.

Naughty naughty! You know better than to not add the link.?! ;):) https://www.dietdoctor.com/low-carb/recipes

Hi @lasor ,
Do you have in your possession a BG meter? This would help you decide/calculate what works for you with any carb count & decisions if any sort of carb might work for you...

I try not to recreate starchy foods to retrain my brain and palette. I love a piece of lamb or chicken and a plate of steamed green veggies with butter. Yum.

I have a small portion of potatoes most days. 100g new potatoes, half a potato omelette https://www.waitrose.com/ecom/produ...spanish-potato-omelette/865912-215265-215266? (15g carb per half), half a bombay potato https://www.sainsburys.co.uk/webapp...ainsburys-bombay-potato-(medium---spicy)-300g (10.9g carb per half)
Try these but test with your meter. I wouldn't do low carb without some potato most days!

Any advice would be great. Cheers
Hi Lasor,
Best adivce is one thing at a time. Lets look at cauliflower rice if you are buying pre made micro wave stuff form the super market it tastes awful! :yuck: (smells worse)

If on the other hand you finely cut up a cauliflower fry it in butter add onion, garlic, garden peas and mabey a bit of bacon and some chillies it will taste great. You have now made home made cauliflower rice rice at a fraction of the cost.;)

Next.
As for potatoes and pasta fresh is not best.
First the best thing for you to do is stop eating them all together but as they say "Rome was not built in a Day" so if your still going to eat them then you need to turn them into a healthier version of what they are for you. There was a program on the BBC the Truth about Carbs

If you watch that video it will explain why leaving potatoes & pasta in the fridge over night will have less of an impact on you blood sugar levels.:D

THIS IS NOT A GET OUT OF JAIL FREE OPTION Carbs especialy starchy carbs (starch is sugar) are not good for you if your a diabetic. You already know this. :bookworm:

But many people struggle to give up carbs at first which is Ok. If it takes you a couple of months to come to the decision to give up starchy carbs like potatoes and pasta as long as you get there in the end; that's good and while your coming to terms with this the truth about carbs video will help you lessen the impact they are having on you.

Hope that helps. ;)

Lol, now I just need to take @NoCrbs4Me to task for the steak not being peppered with some decent mushrooms..

Or ribeye for that matter. :D Good to see you posting sir!

Sounds like it's gonna be one of those nights ;)

I've got roast chicken, a salad with bell pepper, radishes and spring onions, and mushrooms - plus anything else I find in the fridge, but I'm not very hungry today which is why I've not eaten and it is past eleven o'clock.

Yes, without triggering the mythical profanity filter, expressing the commonly known word for the dark underworld of hades..

I've actually taken my "Mod hat" off for the night...

Mushrooms are carbs. I think the clue is in the name @NoCrbs4Me . ;)

Yes there are Negligable carbs in the fungi, in an acompanying modest portion. Just take a look at cauliflower per 100g in comparison to a ton of mushies...
Don't get me wrong. I do both... ;) (Lol, though not at the same time.)

With the utmost regard to @NoCrbs4Me he has my respect for his way too!
