Can a type 1 diabetic become a paramedic

thanks for that! does your husband drive first response ambulances??
No my Husband is a Technician (1 grade less than a Paramedic)
The Paramedic is the Diabetic on Insulin

My Husband works on the NHS Ambulances.
 
Found this ancient thread while googling for this article, so thought I’d update it for anyone else searching.

The rules have changed, I’ve got my C1, and I begin paramedic training in less than two months, including the ability to drive blue light vehicles. I had to have a couple of extra medicals that the muggles didn’t - we all need a GP level one, but I had to have another with my consultant and yet another with the DVLA’s independent diabetologist. They went through three months worth of blood readings with a fine tooth comb, and asked me probing questions about the law relating to insulin and driving.

So if you can prove you’re under good control, you can do the job. Under the Equalities Act of 2010 you can’t be prevented as long as you’re capable and they must make reasonable adjustments to enable you to manage your condition.
