coz im feeling really sick and very very tired

Hi Charlotte,

I'm not an insulin user so not really qualified to answer you, but your breakfast of cereal (high carb) and fruit (high sugar) is obviously not being countered by sufficient insulin to meet the sugar load.

Hi Charlotte,

and welcome aboard a very select bandwagon. All those type 2's like to pretend they're diabetics, but they're not foolin anyone, are they? We're called type 1 for a reason!

As for the cereal issue, there is no insulin on the market which will cope with the sugar rush that cereal and fruit will deliver to your bloodstream. You are injecting enough to bring your blood sugar down from 22-24 (aaargh!) to 7 (still too high) so that's probably quite a large dose, but as you can see, it's fighting an unwinnable battle with the sugar.

A word to the wise, though, don't start using more insulin. That way madness lies. Try eating less starch instead. What else do you fancy for breakfast?

All the best,

fergus

Hi Charlotte ,
I was diagnosed type 1 around seven years ago and have been using Human Mixtard 30 (2 doses 1b4 breakfast and 1b4 evening meal) and seemed to be coping fine until the weekend when my blood sugar before going to bed at 11pm was 19.1 and then dropped to 1.3 by 5am. I had another drop monday night from bs 15.5 at 2200 dropping to 3.3 by 0600. I have since felt nauseus and bit dizzy just not right and have got to visit the clinic tues to see about changing my insulin . My average readings over the last couple of months are 7.5 but then I haven't been testing as much as I thought I needed to. I must admit that I have only just found this site and it is great for filling in blanks .

Hi stormrogue,

always good to have a new recruit.

Sounds as if you're on a bit of a toboggan ride with your numbers there? Have you thought of going on a basal/ bolus regime? Injecting to cover meals is a much better idea than eating to cover your insulin.

All the best,

fergus

Hi Fergus,
I guess I have been in a bit of denial about my Diabetes as although I still have my regular check up with my gp I dont really have any dealings with any one else about it. Since being diagnosed seven years ago I have just kept the blinkers on and carried on with what I was prescribed but after reading some of the posts on here I now know there is so much more I should be doing to keep control. As they say knowledge is the key and I have definatley been in the dark. I didn't realise there were as many different types of insulin or the the idea of low carbs to help I have always gone with the original train of thought about eating low sugar but high carb , I will just have to stop being lazy with the way I deal with it and take a more active aproach to control.

Sean.
