Can anyone offer advise PLEASE!!!

Do ask them to explain your results to you, Katie - it's your health after all. Sometimes you have to be politely pushy to get more information.

If you find they don't listen or you feel nervous that they're not going to pay attention, you could rehearse what you're going to say in advance, or even make a list of questions.

I will do, thanks for your advice

Kate, I was referring to one of the self test blood glucose meters. You can buy these yourself either online or from a local chemist. You don't need a prescription or anything, however they tend to be a bit costly (esp the strips) if you don't have a doctor's prescription.

Ino, but I'll try and get an appointment at GP first,as think if I buy a metre and tell them reading they may think I'm over exaggerating enough to buy metre, and because of age etc they do tend to judge me more, thanks for advise though as don't want to look like I've self diagnosed by buying a metre etc.

thanks again

hi Katie, thanks for coming to this forum for help, you need to speak to your gp, ask for a fasting bloodglucose test to determine whether you are diabetic or not, if needed, ask for a second opinion or even a third, please do this asap!!

Hi there,

I noticed that you said your doctor tends to dismiss you because of your age and it had taken you two years to get a diagnosis for your current illnesses, My advise to you is to go back and make a pest of yourself and get them to test you, that's what they're there to do. They can refer you to specialists who can help diagnose your symptoms. Please don't just give up.... go back and if you're not happy then change to another practice that has specialised Diabetic practitioners on the staff.

You cannot self diagnose Diabetes make an appointment with your GP. They can do tests.

Katie, like you I have a number of autoimmune conditions Hashimotos Hypothyroid, Reactive Arthritis, Psoriasis and it is well known that if you have one autoimmune disease you will have others. I am also Diabetic diagnosed over 25 years ago as Type 2 but now suspected to be LADA. As you will know Type 1 Diabetes is another autoimmune condition. I would certainly knock on your doctors door for a diabetic blood test and an HBA1c might be the best one to start off. I have had some weird results on my Liver function test which come and go. Before you get an appointment go to your practice and get a copy of your recent blood tests, dont be put off your entitled to them! Bang on doors its your body that needs attention!! Good luck

Ino I cannot self diagnose, as no doctor, just asking other people's advise that suffer from this disease incase they encountered any of the same symptoms or feelings. Hello everyone, went to the Drs today, and told her my symptoms, like dry mouth, hot than cold and sweaty, Feeling ill, stomach ache and nausea, also she said I had a temperature, looked in my throat to see if I had a throat infection, than done urine test, she said it's not diabetes but than asked me if I had eaten anything today and I said no, she said only there was some Ketones in my urine but that happened when you haven't eaten anything, so she gave me antibiotics for a water infection she said she highly doubts it that but she doesn't know what it is, so stuck and said if I don't feel better to go back.

At least she's ruled out diabetes for you When I get a cold or other virus, I often get a horrible dry mouth. As I get better, it gradually goes away. I do t know if that's relevant to you, but sometimes viruses or infections can give you symptoms you woukdnt necessarily expect.

Hopefully, the antibiotics will help you. All you can do is rest, eat well, keep hydrated and take the doctor's advice about going back if you continue to have problems.

Look after yourself

Ino it's just annoying as she said the antibiotics are for a water infection which she said she highly doubts I have, and I've had antibiotics 3 times in the past 2 months and still felt the same, so I'll have to see

Sorry the antibiotics haven't worked before. If the nurse took a urine sample to test then do phone up for the result and see if there is an infection.

I know it must be frustrating when you're not feeling right and you're not sure what it is. The only thing I thought of is maybe you could keep a diary of how you feel and things like what you eat, etc. that way you may see a pattern, and if you do need to go back to your doctor then at least you have information to show them if they ask.

I don't know if this would help you but I've found a good probiotic has helped me feel better overall when I'm feli g run down. I particularly like them after antibiotics as antibiotics kill the good bacteria along with the bad.
