Can diabetics safely fast

Hi:

I was wondering if it is safe for diabetes to fast. I was in an accident almost three years ago and as a result I do not get hungry or full or know when I am taking a hypo. My doctor has said I should not miss meals but with no hunger it is hard to eat three meals a day.

Thank you.

Can you tell us if you're taking any medications for your Type 2?

Then I would think fasting could possibly be dangerous unless you do it with a doctor's consent and care as you'd need to adjust your medications and/or stop all your medications before you started fasting.

If you cannot fast, eating a very small amount of a balanced low carb diet, will suffice.
People do not realise they really don't need much food to survive. It is the body demanding more useless carbs that most diabetics struggle with.
A small salad, with a piece of meat of your choice or some homemade soup.
There are plenty of ideas in the low carb forum.
I have come to realise that my body doesn't need a lot of food, and sometimes I think that my body works better without food, but I'm weird!
Always consult with your GP, or like me, I discuss everything with my endocrinologist.

Best wishes.

Thanks nosher8355.

I do just eat small amounts as you stated, but my real issue is that I do not have the ability to feel hungry or full. So the fasting was in relation to not eating as I do not have regular, hunger and full sensations.

You will only get answers from someone is trained to recognise your symptoms.
I think that fasting can be good if done (like everything else) in moderation.
I too don't get hunger pangs but I get the full feeling if I eat too much, which isn't that much. You have to find out what works for you.
Best wishes.
