Hi,

Yes you can. I'm assuming from your profile pic that you are in the UK?
If so you can pick up a glucometer at most chemists, although somewhere like Boots probably has the biggest range.

If you are just looking for a one off finger prick snapshot, a lot of chemists will do that for you if you walk off the street and ask at the counter. :)

If you want to just test a few times, then one of the over-the-counter meters from a chemist usually has about 10 test strips in it, when you buy it. So that gives you 10 tests. If you then want more, you need to get a pack of strips. These can get expensive, so choose carefully.

The other alternative is to buy over the internet. Lots of us do this, because you can shop around and pick good value meter and and strips, and get them delivered.

Lots of brands out there, but PLEASE check that you are getting good value for money. Many of us self funding T2s test between 5 and 10 times a day (although we often only do that for the first few months), so the costs can mount up if a pot of 50 test strips costs £25 !

PErsonally, I buy the SD Codefree, available from Amazon, eBay and Homehealth website. Last time I checked, the 50 test strips were around £7.70 which doesn't break the bank.

But please shop around. Get the best meter for you. Price, strips, convenience.

Just to add to what Brunneria says, lots of T2s on here use the SD Codefree meter not just her!

Some firms give out meters for. free but these are usually the ones with the expensive strips I use the codefree ,maybe not the .most accurate but it gives a good idea what your BGs are doing
