Can I do LCHF with 85% fat without getting FAT

Pasha

Expert
The answer is "I dont know " so I will do a n=1 expt on myself to find out.

I will start out @ 1866 calories /day split as follows 14 grams carbohydrates, 56 grams proteins and 176 grams of fats/oils.

Measurements will be FBG daily, weight maybe one a week to ten days and ketones as BHB according to the number of strips I have left, somewhere.

I welcome any advice, comments etc.

At that calorific intake, I would expect you to lose weight on LCHF. It will be interesting to see what the results are. Good luck!

Almost all extra virgin olive oil, rarely some coconut oil. . Over the last 7-8 days 14 grams carbs ,56 grams of proteins and 155 grams fat.

if you can't do 10% carb 22-25g without spiking..I would say you need to see your Dr and may need to go on/more meds

We shall see how things develop. Maybe the results will show that I can make systematic additions to my carb intake. My aim is to stay away from meds and my doctor.

Most definitely...... Depending on your height / BMI
I am 6'-2" with a BMI of 22 and have been on a 80% fat (15 protein 5 carb) diet with over 3,000 carbs per day for 9 months and I struggle to maintain my weight. Let us know how you get on.

measurements for first day on 1866 calories according to the above mentioned plan.

FBG 4.00 mmoles/l

Weight 66.4 Kg. BMI 21.68

What's that as energy percentages?
(He asked, too lazy to calculate it himself).

3% from carbohydrates 12% from protein and of course 85% from fats/oils.

I eat a good deal of Salmon, so that should cover the omega 3 requirement, but thanks for the advice because I need to learn more about this issue.

I'm missing something here? I can see nothing wrong with your weight or BG

I also think my weight is OK

Dont you remember your post from yesterday about people being able to ingest over 5000 cals/day and not gain weight.etc and the questions that followed.
See here,
Low carb Newbie and I feel terrible - is it carb 'withdrawal'?

perhaps you should re-read it...he did gain weight on 5,000cal, just not the calorie in calorie out maths and put on a couple of Kg where by the maths he should have put on 8Kg

eating extra 900cal fat didn't put weight on bernsteins patients and needed more protein to do it

re: the post above, you said you spike on 10% . carb, yet you have a FBG of 4..what does your BG go up to with 30G of carb in a meal?
you don't appear to have any insulin resistance?

When I started out on my attempts to lower my BG values I weighed ca110 Kg , now I am 66.4 Kg, maybe this is something like the N.D effect re Professor Taylor. In any event these are the best results I have managed so far.
The aim of my n=1 trial remains the same, as I explained in my post to Spiker .A very simple trial with one variable is enough for me at the moment.
Later on I will do a trial with increasing the carbohydrates while maintaining isocaloric conditions. I would be very happy to discover that I could increase my vegetable portions and still maintain tight BG control. Whether or not I am still insulin resistant, can only be answered by the test results of those trials.I look forward to learning the answer, but realise that it will take time and patience to see it through.
