Hi i have just been told i have diabeties after going back and forth to the doctors for the last 8 months, i have been told to control by diet alone to see how i get on. i decided to test my blood sugars daily as my daughter was type 1 , my sugars range from 3.5 and 13 being the highest .i am 65 a full time wheelchair user with only the use in my right arm so find exercise very difficult,i have cut down on most sugar, bread, potatoes, pasta and rice i weigh around 14 stone i was pretty sure i had diabeties when i first went to the doctors but they looked for everything else first ? im unsure about drinks that say no added sugar are they safe to drink the one i like is suso contains 60% fruit juice can anyone please explain what 167kj of which 7.2g sugars means thanks for any help ,sue

I personally wouldn't drink Suso on a daily basis because although there is no added sugar, there is a reasonable amount of natural sugar from the fruit juice. If I'm desperate for a fizzy drink, I go for a diet pop... it's not the healthiest option in terms of additives, I admit, but as a new low-carber I view any carbs in drink as a waste. I'd much rather eat 7g of carbs than drink it lol. (But that's my greedy nature!).

I used to love fruit juice of any kind, and used to buy one of the giant cartons on a weekly basis. That shopping habit has been consigned to history now though :-(

I'd keep off anything sugary, natural or added sugars have the same effects on blood glucose. Try fruit teas! I love the berry flavoured ones and several of my friends have ginger and lemon.I add a sweetener.
