Hi there

Can someone please tell me what cereal I can eat.
I live in the London Borough of Barnet, and I have to say that as a council, they are USELESS at Diabetes care.

I eat Weetabix every morning and then I go for a three mile walk after breakfast. My DN once said that road diggers and marathon runners can eat what they like. So you can eat Shredded Wheat if you do something about the inevitable spike that it will cause. Otherwise you will have to have an alternative.

@Evelynross and @Chenners I can eat groats (wholegrain oats soaked overnight) with butter, coconut oil, chia seeds, berries and anything else you fancy (even an egg) and I get a maximum 2.0 rise, and sometimes almost no rise at all, after 2 hours.
Also I agree with @Squire Fulwood about exercise. I've just eaten a whole Lidl high-protein roll with cold meat & salad and am about to take to good walk. It's the sort of snack I'd take to the allotment or on a cycle ride.

Sorry DeejayR I just couldn't eat that. The worst cereal-grain type thing that I've ever eaten had to be that Iwisu mealie pap stuff though eww. I tried doing whole grains before low carb and me and mealie pap, teff, spelt, quinoa, amaranth etc don't mix.

Good, the fact that we're all different is kind of freeing. It emphasises to OPs that however broad the path we follow together, we really have to find our own idiosyncrasies.

According to the Dafne guidelines for T1 shredded wheat contain 1.5CP each (weight 22g), so for a bowl of two you would need to double this plus account for milk and any toppings. Bolus to match your insulin sensitivity ratio. If your a type 2, I have no idea!

hi there im t2 and for brekkie i have either porridge oats and blue berries (not the ready in 2mins stuff) or a protien boosted wheat biscuit called protibick with blue berries they are like weetabix in shape and touch wood bloods always fine after eating

tend to have 2-3 eggs with tomatoes on a wrap with butter

if having cereal, then a no added sugar granola, with nut and seed rich muesli, with non milk liquid like oat or coconut milk, often with a tablespoon of psyllium husks

Shredded wheat are fine, complex carbs and fibre. No sugar. I have cereal every morning . Porridge today. Use DAFNE. Carb content is on box.

Hi @Chenners do you test your BS? Some people, Inc me, can eat cereals with little affect on their BS but the majority cannot. I have hot oat cereal which I add oatmeal and milled flax to or bran flakes with hazelnuts and almonds most days for b/fast which I know will not spike my BS (i even experimented with Frosties the other day and got away with it) however we are all individuals so the only way to know is to test is eat to out meters!
