Hello,

this is a question the practice nurse couldn't answer. Can I give blood? I assume not but thought I should ask - and what about organ donation too ?

I give blood as a T2 regularly and was advised by the people running the donor session that its fine if you are either controlling it by diet or pills as long as you have been on the meds for a minimum of 2 months and are stable as stated by Phoenix.

The blood donor guys ring, write and email me on a regular basis to ensure ime available to donate. Probably because ime B+ which is a rare type.

Andy

Blood donation is really good to helping more and more people. Blood donation is very best think to all and you also donate the blood for nearest blood donation bank or camp. Blood donation is really saving to more life so donation for blood is really good think for all.

Provided your oral med have not changed at all either up of down in the month (poss 2 months) your fine to donate. i was able to donate 3 months after i was diagnosed.

Ok, But i think this is really be safe for all. You donate the blood before you suggestion for your doctor and then after you donate. some time you creating some health problem for donating blood. So must you consult your doctor first.

How can you say It's safe for 'All' to donate blood? :problem:

I always thought that if you are on insulin you can donate blood but not if you are are on oral pills.

I mean to say you firstly consult your doctor and then after you donate the blood. And yes, donate the blood is be safe for all the normal people. Because you can given your blood so you can firstly tall him to your doctor and blood taker are know about how to using insulin and lot's more think about blood taken so it's be safe for you.

I understand now.yes,if the doctor gives you approval then giving blood is a very good thing to do to help make sure blood is always available to save lives,I've had blood transfusions and I would donate if I was allowed to.

They let you donate blood if you use insulin in the US, I think the UK restriction is not so much about the quality of the blood but the risk that it might disrupt the control of the donor
I think that I might be allowed to here in France but I can't because I' lived in the UK between 1980 and 1996( because of BSE). They ban us from giving blood in most parts of the world.
