Can I Read Anything Into My First Few Days if Meter Use

Waiting result of second hbac1 test (first one was 49). In meantime got a metre and these are my initial readings over the last few days.

Can anybody add any commentary to help me understand what these mean?

Thanks

Nick

An average blood glucose of 7 corresponds to 42 HbA1C, so you might expect something in this area.

Thanks. Does that mean no diabetes diagnosis?

Its kind of on the edge of prediabetes...42-47 so you'd be better off with it being lower than 40.
If it were me I'd try an Americano with cream rather than the latte. Milk has quite a few carbs in it whereas cream has fewer and you need less in coffees. Double cream is best I have 2 tablespoons in a triple shot Americano a couple of times a day to feed my caffeine addiction.

Is the mysugr app giving you an estimated hba1c? Looks like you have been testing often enough for it to do so
Looking at the timing of your tests, I think you would get more useful data by doing a test just before eating then another 2 hrs later - that will tell you how that food / meal is affecting your sugars - random testing gives results that are difficult to interpret / asses

I work away and only a costa machine in the building I'm working in - and don't like black coffee. Dilemma!

It's asking for a week at least before estimating. So in a couple of days. I may have been mistaken by not doing a reading before a meal on the basis that the reading two hours after the previous meal was sufficient. Will have to resolve that. Thanks.

Quick question. Apart from risk of infection is there any reason not to use a lancet more than once? Even twice will double their lifespan to keep cost down

I change mine infrequently, usually when they start to hurt more or don't draw enough blood. That can be anywhere from every 20 pricks to 50 pricks. I have been doing this since 2014 with no infections. I use the Fastclix lancet pen which has the lancets safe and secure inside a cartridge. They just pop out when the top is pressed, then disappear back inside.

OMG. Did a test for lunch to see what a sandwich did. Egg cress and brown bread made me go from 5.7 to 10.3, 2 hours after. Looks like bread is a gonna for me. Used to have loads. Perhaps helps explain my 49 hbA1c

This is the beauty of self testing! You have learnt a valuable lesson. :)

Do you have a Lidl near you? They sell low carb rolls (about 9g carbs per roll) They are called High Protein Rolls, sell at 29p each, and can be found in the fresh bread baskets. They are dark brown, triangular, and packed with seeds. I slice mine in half and just have half toasted with butter. I find a half is enough because they are very filling. They freeze well.

i used to only be able to drink black coffee with sugar, but i was also advised to limit my milk intake, so i persevered with straight black coffee (have a serious caffeine addiction) and now really enjoy it - i do occasionally have it with milk, but usually now prefer it without. one thing i've really been surprised about since being diagnosed and changing my diet radically is how my tastes have changed as a result.

i am so pleased you posted this!!! i go to lidl's fairly often, so will definitely try the rolls - it would be great to be able to eat a bit of bread again now and then.

I can't really call myself a coffee aficionado. I normally have decaf skinny latte. Probably as far removed from a coffee as is possible.

as far as i know (but i may be wrong), skim-milk has more carbs than full fat milk, so maybe try having a decaf with normal milk? might help a little.
