Evening all.

This year has not been the kindest and despite my good intentions back in January, circumstance has thrown me off course.
I haven't looked after myself that well, more so recently but some here know that personal circumstance hasn't helped, my diabetes has come way, way down the list of priorities.

I went to the docs about a month ago (I hate going) for something unrelated, he decided to do a battery of tests one of which was the A1c. My initial number was 7.5 back in June last year at diagnosis, 6.6 three months later..I haven't had one done since then.

I was prepared for it to be at it's highest level yet but it wasn't, in fact the doc (who didn't know me) initially said that it was fine and I wasn't diabetic! Compared to some who have managed 5's and the miraculous 4's, I know it doesn't sound much but to me today to hear that I got a 6.4, slightly less than nearly a year ago was good news and made me feel a little less hopeless.

Being here has given me the hope and continues to do so. Thanks x
 
Being lucky is no excuse for being lacks a daisycle.

It does , however , help.

Keep being lucky or better still get back on the wagon

I pleased things are good for you..

The last year has not been kind to my, and the same happened, i cared a little less about the diabetes, but sadly had my highest hba1c of 10.2

So i am trying hard now to get things back in control, my target for my november appt with my consultant is to get back down to 7.2 again

Anyway i hope the future hold better things for you
 
Well done for your HBA1C, its a good result. Just a small word of warning, when I was first diagnosed I was REALLY GOOD for about 8 months, lost a couple of stone and did really well with my readings. I got myself to 6.4 and the nurse told me if I kept going they would reduce my med significantly. But the problem was ME. I had started to be a bit naughty with food before this reading so being the self destructive person that I am (this is really how I got to be diabetic in the first place) I tried to keep pushing the boundaries. An occasional dessert became the odd bar of chocolate which became naughty treats every day. I found myself 2 stone heavier and with HBA1C of 7.8 in just a few short months.

So my warning to you is, just because you have a good reading now, even though you have not been so controlled, don't keep doing it, get back on the wagon, be motivated, be positive, keep strong. Good luck!!
 

Grrrrrrrrrrrr. Stop comparing yourself to other people LB.

If HbA1c is a competition, then the only person you are competing with is yourself*. Firstly 6.4% is an excellent HbA1c for any diabetic. Secondly it's a "PB", which should be reason enough to celebrate. Thirdly, you don't know how banged up your pancreas is. It could be that 6.4% is a good as you're ever going to get with your broken endocrine system. It's no good comparing yourself with people in the 5% club who have a different pancreas / glycation rate than you do.

Compared with 7.5% and 6.6%, 6.4% is a miracle, and the result of lots of hard work. Now stop being miserable and crack open a celebratory pack of Hobnobs.

*I do compete with wiflib, but it's a bit like trying to compete against the old East Germany in athletics. She always beats me, but only by using performance enhancing drugs (like metformin).
 
Angela you need to learn to be as good to yourself as you are to others. Give yourself credit for what you have achieved despite having to cope with all those personal issues.
And I agree with everything borofergie told you. It's not a race.

Angela, you are the most important person in several other people's lives. You owe it to them to take a little "me" time every now and again - and to look after yourself a bit more.

Your result is testament to your hard work day by day in very, very trying circumstances. Those of us who also have a lot more to cope with than diabetes understand what this result means for you.

Brilliant Angie well done :clap: :clap: :clap: Keep it up a 6.4 means you've done fantastic and worked bloody hard so don't belittle what you've achieved.
