I need to know if its possible to survive off for the MONTH

1 pack of 800 gram powdered full cream milk

40 Eggs boiled

A few packs of Oats to eat with the milk at nights

And some Oranges?

I need to cut my food expense down to $2 USD a day.

Well, the average human will last a lot longer that one month without eating before they starve to death.
So the short answer is Yes, of course you can.

But of course you need to take other things into account. Nothing is ever that simple, is it?

Would stopping eating affect your blood glucose and any medication?
Would eating that amount of milk, fruit and oats screw up your blood glucose management?
Would you become EggBound (I would).

Personally, as a T2 without diabetes medication, and having read Jason Fung, I would rather eat nothing for a month than live exclusively on the foods you have listed.

If this is a short term arrangement, then you should be fine providing you watch your portion sizes.

You would not get far on $2.00 a day here in Australia, probably be slowly starving to death within a month or two.

Why don't you get a better paying job or work two jobs for more money to spend on decent food. This would be better than eating what you list.

Your two acres of crops should be growing well now, so you will be able to eat all that Okra you planted as well.

OK first off if I were in your position I'd be walking up to my local restaurants and pleading to work in return for some food. Being humble enough to say I need to eat and I'll do any work you need me to do takes guts but ultimately it is also very telling and you will be highly respected. You just need to look very clean/hygienic to work in their kitchens - if you think they'd turn you down then offer to pick up litter outside, clean their cars etc... If you know of any farms then most of them need cheap labour and if you pick the right ones like a dairy farm you'll be able to get a few pints of milk out of them.

Secondly, if you can't work then I'd say go to the shops at the end of each day where food is being discounted to save a bit more money.

Thirdly look into extreme couponing where you can buy a whole load of stuff with coupons so your shopping will cost you next to nothing.

Fourthly you might find that you have something to sell - just to keep you going financially. Old clothes that don't fit etc

Food I might buy in your position would be from Asda or Lidl who are the cheapest supermarkets in the UK:

Ingredients:
Pack of 10 eggs (£2)
Can of Peeled plum Tomatoes in Tomato Juice (30p)
Lidl protein bread (28p)
Chicken paste (25p)
Pack of 4 sausages (27p)
Meatballs (40p)
Porridge Oats (75p)
Pint milk (75p)
Large iceberg lettuce (43p)
Banana (17p)

Breakfast:
1 egg omelette garnished with tomato and half slice protein bread (44p)
1 egg on half slice protein bread (34p)
Sausage sarnie - 2 sausages with full slice protein bread (42p)
Porridge Oats, bit of salt made with water but then topped with milk
Mash half a banana with an egg to make batter for pancakes Very tasty! (29p)

Lunch
Salad of lettuce, a few meatballs from tin, 1 boiled egg (40p)
Fried egg, fried sausage (27p)

Tea
Any bread that has dried up/old/past it's best by 1 day just pop in oven then rub over with clove of garlic if you have any -and put peeled plum tomatoes in blender and add salt and put that over the bread for a lovely spanish style snack. (38p)
Cook 2 sausages and slice thinly to eat with your spanish style snack above (52p for everything)
If you can buy 1 banana and blend half of it one day with some milk for a night time drink (34p)

Mainly though I would look at how you can limit your current outgoings ...do you really need your mobile phone...internet access...your car...can you rent a room out in your house to make money...are you supporting someone who now needs to support themselves...and remember - charity begins at home :-D best of luck! xx

The OP in his previous threads states he lives in the West Indies, so most probably will not have the same stores.

As for your suggestion of:

This will be the go if your hungry enough.

In that case there will be lots of things like fruit that he can pick (obviously to be eaten in moderation) which might grow over the boundaries of the growers so wouldn't be classed as stealing - and perhaps he can go down to the beach and grab a crab to eat in the early mornings or evenings - and/or try his hand at fishing as well. Can also offer to do beach massage at $3 a time for 15 minutes and cover his food expenses :-D Another thing is to make a big ole fish stew from 'bits or offcuts' which can make several meals! He can also use rice sparingly to make up several meals over the month providing he isn't eating loads of other carbs which is cheap and filling and only 21g of carbs for 100grams of white glutinous rice.

Its mostly long term crops planted like oranges. Its not my land though its my mom's

But yeah I planted like 100 Okra trees but they take 8 weeks to produce. I am considering planting some other stuff it has to be ones that survive harsh conditions offcourse

I do not have diabetes
You know stores throw out all the food that goes out of date that day if they don't sell it? Many people survive solely off the packaged food supermarkets throw out each day, most of it is perfectly edible

No i need to do this for 2 years. I was originally going for $1 a day to survive but it seems like that is way too low. I have to make $2 a day work for me I am trying to complete my BSc in Computer Science.

Ok, if you're doing long term savings you probably need to rethink how you're going to eat because you will wind up with malnutrition. Others here have made good suggestions. Learn when your supermarket starts marking things down and shop then. At the end of each day you will find a lot of tossed food from supermarkets in their bins as already mentioned. I found out one of the students in my family at the time was doing this (he never asked any of us for help)... he kept quiet about it until his mum told me what he had been doing... he even brought her food too because she works real hard but doesn't always make enough money. So he'd go when it's dark with one of his mates with torches in hand and they'd find packaged goods like rice, pasta, cans of beans, etc.... probably lots of fresh produce too because they have to get rid of that and some of that is packaged as well so wouldn't get dirty in the bin. Probably the only thing I'd stay away from is meats and poultry, and any frozen goods as they would've already started to spoil in the bin and could make you real sick. That's probably doing the extreme I know... but the other option is to find your local charity that provides a food bank and visit them regularly for help. Maybe pop in to soup kitchens now and again, etc. If you have friends and family that don't mind cooking you a free meal now and again... let them know you'd appreciate it. Also if you have market gardeners or farmers in your area you may be able to get free produce or marked down produce from them too. Considering you're growing things yourself you may even be able to do a food swap with them sometimes. If you know any friends that prefer to buy meat or produce in bulk, ask if you can contribute a small amount for a small share of what they order (my family does that sometimes with meat and fruit/veg) as buying bulk from a wholesaler or producer is usually cheaper than buying from the store. I know you'd be trying all you can to save when you're studying and it's not easy. But there are plenty of ways to eat well without making yourself sick in the process. I wish you the best. :)

I get free WIFI for some time now I noticed there is an open wifi connection I am using that its even pretty fast 50mbps, and I live with my mom and she pays the electric, well its the Caribbean so electric is low because you can live just fine with natural breeze and a fan.Well my mom cooks and sometimes I am offered food but I don't ever ask because she goes by what she sells from her oranges in the citrus field. I am 30 years old so I don't ask anybody for anything I shouldn't be either. My father said he won't help because I am too old so this is why I don't ask.

Once I can catch up with what I have to do for my final year I can work for about a year or 2 and save up the cash to pay for it. I already completed my first 2 years but money has run out. Its distance learning BSc computer science with University of Hertfordshire. My first 2 years I have already completed and its a NCC Advanced Diploma in Computing, sadly I can't get a job with it, maybe its the oil crisis is why. So since I want to complete the final year at a different school that offers a BSc top up in Computer Science I have to learn about 2 years worth of actual programming since it has a lot more advanced stuff than just a regular computing BSc.

I have a great free 1300 page PDF book by Bulgarian Authors translated to English on Computer Programming that teaches the core aspects for the subject at hand its a fantastic book the best I have ever come across. So I am just trying to survive for as long as I can to learn as much as I can I currently put in atleast 14 hours a day study on this. This can allow me to catch up to final year BSc level in a matter of 17 months. So when I get a job it will be doable and I will most likely graduate with honors.

Hey thanks for your suggestion, I did as you said and spoke with a local veggie mart owner and the guy told me he would even pay me cash for produce wholesale he said cucumbers is a big seller, so I am going to plant some cucumbers and other short term crops as many as I can and sell it to him. :) I have a lot of land to plant on so space is not an issue.

I am gonna try this and see how it turns out. Maybe this could be my big break and I will also ask the supermarket for what they toss out :)
