hi everyone,
i am T2 and two weeks ago i have got my hbac1 results and it was 42, i don't know what is on old count ( i ve forgot to ask but love to know what it is).
when i convert 42 on converters here its comes up 5.99% and when convert 5.99% to mmo/l it works out average 7.6.
so the question is this, when i was monitoring my blood sugar 90days average was 5.3 mmol/l and i was taking it 6mmol/l and converting here so the results of hbac1 always come around 33 on new count, so how comes my blood test was 42.
Is the converters are not reliable here? or the monitoring machine that we use at home is not working properly?

please help, now i am off the pills and my d/nurse said that if i am average 7 mmol/l after +2 or anytime of the day it should be fine( but i don't believe that figure it sounds high) checking my monitor and its between 5-6 +2 and in the mornings its between 4.8 - 5.2, now I am worrying that, before my readings were quite low (4.5-5.4 anytime) and hbac1 come up 42,the way that goes now my hbac1 will be quite high and i have test in mid September.

what you guys thinking any light?
thanks

The HbA1c test is a way of coming up with an average over about three months. It is not measured using the same methods as a simple home test strip. So, you have a different method, different units one being a snapshot of the result at that instant and one being an average over time.

So it is no surprise that convertions are not accurate.

Your results are very good, so keep doing what you are, it obviously works.

Use the strip test to monitor your Bgs day to day.

The HbA1c is what the doctor will use to decide on any treatment that may or may not be needed.

Your Hba1c average will be your average continuous BG level over the whole previous 3 months. The average from your machine will be only be your BG level at the times when you test. For example if you test regularly two hours after a meal, the average result from you machine will not reflect the fact that your level was almost certainly higher 1 hour after the meal.

42 on the new scale is 6 on the old scale so your HBA1C this time around is 6 not 7.6.

Hi

It really does depend on how long it takes your body to get rid of the blood cells that are carrying that high count. Not as stark as you but my first 3 month hBA1c also came back higher than I was hoping based against the readings I got on my meter. The second one I've just had another 3 months on is far more accurate although still a little higher than my meter would predict. Also there is an inherent inaccuracy in an hBA1c test so you may well be very unlucky and have scored high this time out of pure misfortune.

I personally think your daily levels taken with your meter are more important as they show how well you are controlling spikes and spikes can slip through and not necessarily get reflected in an hBA1c which is as others have said just an average. In any event 42 is brilliant as is the range of BG's you meter is showing which are fantastically good so well done you!
