I was newly diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in March. Prior to my diagnosis I was signed off work, with work related stress.

I have now been off work for three months. I had a meeting on Wednesday with work. Prior to the meeting my blood sugar shot up to 17 and then only decreased to 15.

Now today my blood sugars have varied between 10 and 15 but no lower. My doctor wants my levels to be between 5 and 6.

I am currently taking Metformin, and been advised to increase the number I take daily.

The only explanation I have for the increase in levels is stress.
Any feedback, and advise would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Yes, stress is a factor in raised BS levels. It is your liver dumping glucose in your blood stream in the belief you need more energy to cope with the stress. It is the same with fear, fasting, starvation, illness, and even exercise.

What were your levels previously? Have they increased by a lot?

Thanks both.

Prior to Wednesday my levels have been between 7 and 9. Occasionally it has been as low as 6, and the highest it been is 10.

So it's shot up considerably

Even "good" stress such as preparing for a holiday can cause a rise in BGS

There isn't much you can do other than try to find a way to relieve the stress. I hope you can manage to do this.
