Can u help

'Hypostyle' is a word I don't know - did your friend mean 'hypo' or 'hypoglycaemic'? (same thing). It means low blood sugar. Which you probably know - sorry! :D

As far as hypos go, even non-diabetics can have them, though very rarely.

For Type 2s on diet-only, or on Metformin, hypos are rare, but we CAN get them, whatever individual HCPs say.

Type 2s on other medications can have almost as much risk of a hypo as Type 1s, I believe - but Im only on Metformin, so I don't really know (yet!).

Any blood glucose reading (BG) under 4 should be considered a hypo for practical purposes, even if you don't feel ill. You can get the BG reading up a bit by eating a couple of glucose tablets, then testing again to make sure it has come up into the 4s. There's a whole thread about hypos and how to treat them elsewhere on the forum.

Hope this helps

recently found out I had type 2. on Metformin. getting to grips with foods, slowly.my right knee, in pain from a fall, so not much exercise. I am sixty years old,and over five years ago had a heart attack.I am on lots of tablets from my doctor. take my blood sugar, first thing, then i have an asprin with a piece of toast,or cracker, cannot take them on empty stomac. then beta blocker, Diazepam, anti depresants, three Metformin, one after each meal, I take my Ramipril and colestral tablets in evening. I dont fair to well on little food, and most tablets I need a snack with them, otherwise im falling asleep.any suggestions for snacks to take with medication,in between.

Almonds - 10 of them.
A babybell cheese.
Greek yoghurt, a couple spoonfuls.
Half an egg.
Sticks of cucumber and carrot and a lot of water.
A bit of left over chicken, meatballs, whatever you have handy.

All these should be low in carb (5g or less) and have marginal effect on your blood glucose.
Calorie range 50-100 cals per suggestion.
