just a thought... i am newly dx type 2 but was wondering...can you change to type 1? and if so how quickly and what are the symptoms if any???
following on from my bad day thread, i still have this raging thirst and this constant sweet taste in my mouth! neither of which i had up to friday last week, should i go back to doctor and get checked further? or is it just a glich? hope someone can help here....

Hi Petal50

If you're not happy with how your health is, it makes sense to book to see your GP again and tell him your concerns. Any of us could say, well we've experienced that too or even offer advice - but it wouldn't be about your body and your health. So go get an expert opinion and then let us know so we can add it to the general info we all carry around for if in case! I to have wondered if they got my diagnosis wrong but no one here can confirm that. Good luck. Persist till you get an answer.

thanks dg,
yes am going to see if i can see a different dotor at my surgery as although the one i've been seeing is chief partner in the practice he freely admitted he could not advise on diabetic lifestyle as he's had no personal or family experience of it. just textbook stuff.
will see if any one has more of a special interst, as there are lots of unanswered questions i have. will keep everyone posted.

As said if you concerned you need to see your doctor...

You don't change from T2 to T1 diabetes as these are two diferent medical conditions...

But can happen though, is that an individual has a slow on set T1 or what often termed as MODY and when the see the doctor, the symptons and other factors such as age, weight etc are taken into consideration makes a T2 call (there a hell of lot more than T2 diabetics than there are T1)

But over time, it gets more difficult to control etc, and it realised that it's T1 of a form of..

There are tests that can been done c-piptide and GAD testing that can help to determin which type of diabetes...

As it's possible for a T2 diabetic to require insulin support if there resisdence isn't being controlled by oral medication...

In your case yes you could have slow on set T1, or you may be T2 that require a review of your medication etc or something completely different... And only your doctor can determin whats going on and what step to take next, but while waiting to see the doctor if your symptons become worse get yourself checked out at your local A&E

What sort of foods are you eating :?: Are you watching what you eat :?:

Do you test 2 hours after eating and what are your readings. :?:

See the Diabetic Discussions forum where it asks about the effect of carbrohydrates on diabetis see if that helps you.

Type 2s are told by their doctors (not all but most) that they don't need to test but without testing you will not know what foods affect you and your BS.

Hope you get thing sorted soon.

Sue :)

hi folks thanks for you comments and just to let you know i am feeling alot better today. i am following a low carb diet and 1x500mg metformin twice daily... i was testing to check foods but doc said he would not prescribe test strips as us type 2's obsess about testing, the cheek of him!
i am seeing my practice nurse tomorrow as she has been very helpful previously. so have written down questions i need answered. i am also going to push my luck for test strips.
as for my readings.. when dx 5 weeks ago i was in the 12's.
from testing and diet change i got readings down in the 8's but since a couple of high readings when i was feeling ill i can't get below 9, oh tell a lie i did have a couple of mid 7's but that was when i was really hungry before a meal.
also i've found that if i test 2 hrs after eating i'm always at least 3 points higher than before. but if i test 3hrs after my bg is back to pre meal reading.
i'm so confused at the moment as see on here some others readings are 6's or 5's, how can i get that low?? :?: should doc up medication??? ideas please

My DN told me that anything 7 or below is fine, so that is what I base my BG on.

For your BG to go back to pre eating levels 3 hours afrter eating sounds fine to me as well.
