Ok so here is the scenario, for the next couple of months i'm working outside at one of our sites. For my lunch at the moment im taking salads or my home made tomato and red pepper soup for lunch. Now i know i could make and chill stuff at home to reheat on site but for ease of transportation are there any canned foods i could take instead?

i dont have access to electricity but do ave a trangia for warming thing up.

any help will be appreciated

You would have to check the labels for the total carb content, and test before and after eating to see what it does to your levels. We are all different in what we can cope with. Most canned soups etc have added potato for bulk and/or flour for thickening.

Good luck with your HbA1c

Your soup sounds delicious. Why not get a Thermos King food flask and take in hot homemade soups, chillis, curries, stews etc? At least if you are making your own, you know what's in them.

Good luck with your hba1c. Be sure to let us nosey folk know how you get on :)

As Bluetit said your best bet is to try them and test afterwards, I can manage some Heinz soups but not others and cheap own brands neither taste as good and send me higher. It might also be worth investing in a food flask, they have a wider neck than normal flasks, so you can take your own soup with you.

Tinned fish is mentioned in several places as an option for lunches if you like things like that.

Good luck with the results.

You're going to have to spend a fruitful half hour in the supermarket, looking at labels. I would have thought some of the better quality soups in the chiller cabinets would have lower carbs, simply because potato would be used to bulk out cheaper tins. On long journeys in the past I have done amazing things in the car with a slow cooker. Would that be an option?

I found that Aldi sell cans of Chicken Jalfrezi which have 2.7 grams of carbs per 100gms. I scoffed one last night and my meter barely registered
it :-)

Another favourite of mine although not canned (its in a tetra pak) is a Convent Garden soup, specifically Broccoli and Stilton. If I have it for dinner (the whole pack....oops) I find my morning reading is always lower than with any other meal. Losing soup was my biggest bug bear about going LCHF as I wanted or missed a hearty soup, but this fits the bill perfectly.

I don't think they do the broccoli and Stilton one any more... as I looked on line in the supermarket and their online store... I did however find a few recipes on how to make it
