Please, someone help, cant get my sugar leves down, it reaching 30 now! Doesnt respond to when i inject insulin. trying to stop smoking using Eciggies...Help.

Hi and welcome. Can you tell us a bit more. Is your diet OK i.e.have you reduced the carbs to get blood sugar and any excess weight down; are you overweight? Do you carb-count for meals and what are your typical number of shots for the Basal and Bolus? As you may know a level of 30 is getting dangerous so do keep the carbs down and if you don't feel well call the GP or go to A&E.

How many tests are you doing a day? And how many injections are you doing a day so far? The best thing to do is to inject large amounts but don't drink or eat anything with sugar or carbohydrate in until there are signs of the bloods coming down. Failing all of this, get down to A&E where they can put you on drips to purposely bring the sugars down. They will eventually starts responding.
I have personal experience with this, went to hospital and was out the same night as they had reduced them for me. Some peoples systems only respond to highs.

If you want advice, then you need to give details of meds and levels....

What insulin and doses are you on? How many injections are you on day to day? What kind of diet are you having? Without the information we can't help. Test your ketones too! And how long have they been high for? I'd call out of hours also!! Xxz

Hi

Am hoping that youve sort some advice from a doctor by now but if not, then there are 2 insulin regimes that diabetics can use. Basal bolus or twice daily insulins. If the high bg has come from using twice daily insulin, what has happened is that too much carb has been eaten to cope with the insulins action. If this is the case, as long as more carb isnt eaten until bg drops back to a safer level, the bg will drop but will take a while to do so.

Hi all, luckily it has been sorted now. I am on 3 x a day on Novorapid (14-180 and 1 X in the evening (34-38) on Levimir. Turns out that the steroid injection i received on Friday has played havock with my sugar levels. They near to normal now and my ketones are low. Thanks for your replys.

I do not eat many carbs either, I am not overweight, i was just worried that the Eciggies were the cause for my high sugars. I did manage to talk to a doctor yesterday which helped me a lot.

Yes, My surgeon I work for offered me steroid injections but said he really didn't recommend them for me due to the effects on my diabetes. I stayed clear and from pushing myself to use my shoulder more it unfroze anyway..
