Can't stop eating

What was your blood sugar when you got hungry? High blood sugar can cause hunger, as well as the thirst and frequency you've mentioned.

Mood swings and hunger can be caused by the side effects of Januvia. (Sitagliptin)
The drug is an inhibitor and reduces the spike after food.

I would talk it about your GP, especially if these symptoms have only been happening since you started taking them.
There are other gliptins available.

Yes, I agree with that - I was on Sitagliptin for a couple of years and I just couldn't stop myself from binge eating and the mood swings were really awful. I sort of knew the Sitagliptin was responsible for the binge eating (as I hadn't had it before) but I hadn't realised the link with mood swings. Then, of course, my GP put me on antidepressants for the mood swings which made me feel even worse!

Luckily, after low carbing for a couple of months and getting my BG down to more or less normal, I experimented with stopping the Sitagliptin and was very pleased when the mood swings disappeared as well as the uncontrollable urge to eat.

@Terri333 - Ask your doctor if you can change to another medication - although it is possible to remove the need for them if you start reducing your carbs. You also need to use your meter to test your blood glucose to see which foods are giving you those spikes then stop (or reduce) those food items.

Initial weight loss- excellent, desire to learn and watch the food intake excellent. Then you hit a speed bump and derail. It happens.STEP 1- realise it. Brilliant. You've done that. STEP 2 shout out for support. Done that. STEP three take advice on board. You do your homework. Do it again now. Listen to options and make informed choices like you did when you got diagnosed.
Try walking. If you already do, then walk further. It will help clear the mind and take your mind of the cravings. Try it. I don't just walk everyday, I use it to help with moods and all the negative stuff. Sometimes I walk a lot, really a lot.

I hope this helps. It sounds like your shout for help is actually the thing that will help you get back on track..

I know the feeling of ravenous hunger all too well. I Spent 50 years of my life with it. I know how ridiculous this is going to sound but try eating avocado. The fat and fiber are filling and keep bs and insulin lower and slower.
I would be crawling out of my skin starving and watching the clock all day everyday. Food was my only thought. And fighting it. Carbs and protein only exasperated it but the avocado became my miracle cure. It IS my breakfast and holds me for many hours. I also eat it with every meal.

I know drugs can cause this hunger and fluctuating bs which causes hunger but I think it's worth a try.

Yoga stretching always helped me with mood swings and actually helped the hunger thing.

Hey @Kristin251 . If it wasn't for you and your silly avocados I would never introduced them into my diet.
Not as keen as you and lifestyle means I can't manage on them as well as you.
Nonetheless you believe in them and that's good enough for me.
( I blend them with yogurt and peanut butter occasionally)

They are Like babies. Require constant attention. I'm not that keen on them for that reason but mostly for bs controL. I love them but could do without the nursing lol. There is just some magical thing that keeps my bs and hunger where I want them. Floors me sometimes. That's why I call them silly. They're almost as important to stable bs as insulin!!
I am so sensative to fluctuating bs and if I don't have it I feel wonky. I drop then spike. Not a lot either way but enough to drive me crazy.

As far as managing them I generally have a dozen on hand at different stages. As soon as they have a little give put them in the fridge and is stops ripening. They'll Last a week or more there. It stops the ripening. If I don't have them I get really hungry. I can gorge on them and bs doesn't move. If it does it's down. I do however have to keep carbs and protein in check. Both will raise me stupid.
